About Me

I am a musician and teacher currently living and travelling in Europe with my girlfriend Emma. I am from Ireland, she is from the antipodes, and we share a love of musical performance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Emma and I have recently moved back to Europe and we thought couchsurfing would be a great way to stay with like-minded people and make friends in new cities. We also both find that the most enjoyable part of our travels always centres around the people we meet and spend time with. For that reason, when we travel to new places, whether to live longer term or just on holiday, we always want to make new connections and share our experiences with local people.

Interests

I play violin, guitar & piano and regularly play both original and cover music. I studied Music at university and currently split my time between teaching violin & guitar and performing at various concerts, from choral & orchestral works to humble pub gigs and open mics.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a very eclectic taste in music and am equally enthused by classics as well as contemporary artists such as Bjork, Grizzly Bear, John Grant, Radiohead & Sigur Ros.

Most of my own music tends to be quite folk influenced and acoustic with a wide range of influences.

Recent films that I have loved included A Single Man, The Fountain, Calvary and Der Herr Der Ringe (as I'm learning Deutsch!)

In literature I have recently been trying to read more poetry from a range of authors (as this is something I haven't done much of in the past) but in prose I recently read A Song of Ice & Fire and thoroughly enjoyed the series. Old perennial favourites and guilty pleasures include Tolkien, Alan Moore, Cormac McCarthy and Harry Potter.
