About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Escaping my narrow mind.

ABOUT ME

Phew. Well. I'm one of the seven billion bags-of-mostly-water on this planet, trying to make sense of all the mess and beauty we call life. Descriping oneself kind of sucks, so – random facts:

Most people think I'm at least 5 years younger than I actually am. Lately I was asked for my ID at a Party (in Germany you have to be 18 to get into the clubs). Thanks, mum, for good genes. ;-) But perhaps it's just me not acting or feeling like an adult at all...

I'm a mix of introvert and extrovert. At most big partys (when I do not know a lot of people) I feel out of place and it's difficult for me to just chat about the weather or something (because I find those party conversations to terrible boring and always think I do not fit in and everybody thinks I'm weird). Give a surrounding in which I feel save, with fellow weirdos around me and I change into a very talkative and open person. Also, meeting smaller groups or with a single person is much easier for me - this is why I prefer Couchsurfing over hostels, mostly.

If a calculation includes more than two two-digit numbers I drop out and don't even try to do the math.

I choose the ingredients for mixed salad according to their colours – after all I'm a designer.

My first car's name was Rosinante (I still miss her) – every car should have a name, I think.

I don't like shopping. Actually I hate it.

I love cursing and do it frequently.

I cry easily and laugh like a sailor. Arr!

I love to take pictures of people taking pictures.

PHILOSOPHY
Try. Fail. Try again. Fail better. Make Mistakes.
(Honestly, if everything would work out just the way we planned life would be terribly boring.)

Also, I'm sure everything and everyone in this universe is kind of connected. So treat your fellow beings with as much love, respect and openness as you can. We are one. If we hurt others we hurt ourselves. (Generally: Don't be a dick. Simple, tells the story.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Surf while traveling, hosting while at home. :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I hosted several people and surfed several couches. No better way of traveling and getting to know people and places!

Interests

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books that touch my fantasy and let me forget that I'm here on planet Earth in the 21th century: Graphic Novels, dark and dystopian (perhaps because I kind of think these are the "realistic" ones) sci-fi-novels, children's books, political biographies, fantasy novels, poetry, contemporary literature.

When I'm grown up I will live in a house with a huuuge library, in a tower of course, with a big rocking chair and a fireplace.

Music is quite a life essential for me and definitely a big part of my weirdo identity. My taste in music stretches from my two extreme poles of scenes I feel at home in: the Goth scene on the dark, melancholic, death-as-a-part-of-life side and Psytrance on the sunny, life-embracing, all-is-one-and-we-are-stardust side. For me, that's no contradiction at all. ;-) In between there's quite a mix of stuff I hear. If it's Metal, Psychedelic Rock, Stoner, HipHop (mostly German), Singer/Songwriter or Folk – as long as it has the magic to move my brain, my feet, my heart or my soul, I like it. ;-)

For more here's my 8tracks:

Best movie I've seen lately: Only Lovers Left Alive. What a beautiful, beautiful movie and I just LOVE the soundtrack!

Most series I start and do not finish because I'm bored really easy (and i hate sitcoms), but a few are so great I can't stop: Doctor Who, Futurama, Twin Peaks, X-Files, Firefly, Sherlock, Star Trek TNG...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quitting my job after 18 years and embracing the unknown. Still there, (un)learning a lot. It's been and is sometime s uncomfortable and very demanding, but hell, growing is good.

Camping two nights in the wilderness at and 'swimming' in the Dead Sea.

Snorkeling with a whale shark in muddy waters.

Hiking in Nepal.

Saving a life as a bone marrow donator for a 9 month old girl.

Thanks to organisations like DKMS (Germany and worldwide) or the National Marrow Donor Program (USA) people with blood cancers can find their genetic twin that can save them. Do it! Get registered! Maybe you can save a life, too. You just have to get found.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a master of improvising. I can show you how to solve mechanical problems with minimal technical equipment/skills and how to have good faith in the stability of the built structure (in German this is called "Pfusch" and this monster is living wih me since I moved out of my parent's home). ;-)

I'm also an expert in cursing. I can teach you a lot of nasty sounding german swearwords and I'd love to learn more in other languages (they tell a lot about different cultures, really!) ;-)

Seriously: I can teach you a few tricks with Adobe Creative Suite, esp InDesign. Also available: German or English conversation and more or less smart thoughts about world politics.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Thoughts and stories, nerdy quotes from computer games, movies and series. Music. Hopefully a lot of laughs. I like cooking, so if you'd like, I can share recipes or cook for/with you (vegan and vegetarian).

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Russian Federation, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States
