À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to find out just exactly what DOES make me happy in life...

ABOUT ME

What I'm about to tell you usually gets shocked looks and people asking me if I'm lying to them but really, I'm not...listen and then I'll explain.

I'm a Korean, Irish, female firefighting/emergency medicine technician Jew. :)

1) My mom was born in N. Korea and was adopted into a Jewish family in the USA when she was 8 months old. She and I do not look anything alike and I don't look Korean - but I assure you - I am.

2) My biological father is from Ireland but was raised in the States. He met my mother in high school, they had me, divorced and that was that. I don't really know him but I'm fiercely proud of my Irish heritage.

3) I became a firefighter when I finished university and didn't want to become a chiropractor anymore. Was homeless for 2 weeks and found a roommate who was a firefighter. He got me an application for the academy, I applied and was accepted and found my career for life! Through the fire department, I received my EMT certification and also run 911 medical emergency calls.

4) I'm Jewish (though I'm not religious at all) and because I can, I have dual citizenship to Israel. I moved there full time in Feb 2007 until April 2010. It was a great experience and I met some of the most amazing people from all around the world and still consider it my second home.

Otherwise...I love to laugh, meet new people in the strangest places, have some pretty good luck on my side most of the time, can karaoke till my lungs give out, drink vodka and wine, and can cook up a storm.

Oh and I play a mean game of mini-golf, bowling and pool and ride motorcycles.

Hmm...I think that's good enough for now, no?

PHILOSOPHY

I think that everything in life happens for a reason and while we may not know what that reason is at the time or in general, it's meant to happen in just that way.

I also believe that certain people come into our lives to help us achieve something in our lives - love, personal breakthroughs, get over a loss, motivate us to new heights or to show us how strong we really are emotionally.

Life is hard and sometimes you have to hit the bottom before you can start building back up again, but without all those obstacles how would you ever learn anything?

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Being as how I was once homeless for 2 weeks and spent nights on random people's couches before (see my all about me section), I think I have learned to count on the kindness of others and have met some amazing people in the process.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I met one of my best friends in the States by becoming homeless for 2 weeks and sleeping on his couch - that was my first experience with the kindness of strangers and CS'ing, though I didn't know of the project then.

Actual, literal CS experiences? Tons. I used to host someone almost every week/month when I lived in Israel. I've hosted people from Russia, S. America, N. America, England, S. Africa and the Czech Republic. I've been hosted in Ireland, Spain and New York City.

Since I've moved back to the States, I've hosted traveling jugglers and a couple who just wanted to use my backyard to camp! I actually don't get a lot of requests anymore, depending on if people actually want to visit my area which is a tourist spot but not exactly known to European or world travelers for that matter.

I've had some amazing, interesting and downright disturbing situations before with CS - they all are part of the experience of life and I'm grateful for it all!

I once had a guy who I truly believe was homeless and had the worst hygiene ever, but on the flip side, I stayed with a Buddhist studying, flute playing, organic eating farmer in the deep south of County Cork to a Turkish guy with an amazing place outside of Dublin. Throw in my crazy hosts from Madrid who rescued me after I got stranded in Prague the night before and cooked me an authentic Spanish meal and took me barhopping - trust me, I love CS and can't wait to stay with someone new :)

Centres d'intérêt

Music of all kinds, celtic, country, rock, classical, zen, indie - all make my playlist daily.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I learned how to be a trapeze instructor. Which I hate and has no useful purpose in my life at all.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I can teach you how to speak basic Hebrew, work on your English, how to successfully interior decorate your home or even show you a brand new recipe that you may never have thought of before.

I'll share my love of photography and walking around town showing you the little places and history behind them. I may even show you my ambulance and fire trucks if you'd like :)

I want to learn a few new words in your language, how to farm, cook new recipes, and sail a boat. Besides those major goals, I am a sponge for learning whatever it is that interests you, so try me, I promise I'll try to be a good student. :)

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

A super responsible, friendly, outgoing, hygenic and respectful guest :)

However, I want to see and learn about where you're from, where you live and what you're interested in. I can pretty much hold a conversation with anyone and I have plenty of stories to share - from my travels, to my life, to my sometimes weird and crazy patients I have on a daily basis on the ambulance.
