Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As a child, once I realised that there was more to the world than my yard and unpaved lane in the countryside of Trinidad & Tobago, I spent my hours sitting on my stoop dreaming of "elsewhere." As a teenager, I researched trips and created itineraries that I printed and saved in a "vision box." As an adult, I have traveled to a number of places, but not as many as I had dreamt of in my childhood; now I have graduated from a tattered vision box to a "Travel" folder in my Gmail account. When I graduate from my Film program in May 2016, I will be armed with new skills and lots of TIME. I am at a crossroads and determined to discover the answers to the questions: “WHO AM I?” and “WHY AM I HERE?”....I plan on spending the next 1-2 years (or longer) travelling to each continent, and on a budget. Couchsurfing ,and you wonderful Couchsurfers, would be of immense help in aiding me in achieving the latter goals! I look forward to discovering myself and the world together with you beautiful souls! :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This response may seem silly, but my "amazing thing" has been: TEACHING! When I was an undergraduate student, one of my mentors had a magnet posted on a cabinet that read: "I'm a teacher, you don't scare me." It wasn't until I stepped foot in front of classrooms of opinionated, energetic, expressive and curious 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders, did I understand the full weight of that little magnet's message. Teaching Creative Writing and Literature to high schoolers was one of my most daunting undertakings, and one I am proud to have done well! I'm so glad that my students agree! :)
