About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To learn things and go places while saving the world.
ABOUT ME
I just moved back to Richmond from Los Angeles, and I'd love to meet some new friends from close and far away.
I am a compassionista, a pragmatic optimist. I understand the world contains both great suffering and beauty, and that despite global warming, famines, genocides, and diseases, everyone is poised for both greatness and disaster.
I thought that jobs and careers really made you who you are. I put too much faith in my education. I want to focus more on myself and the lovely people around me, because I have a lot of non-school things to learn.
I feel too old and too young at the same time. I'm weird, but not in a threatening way. I might not have my shit together, but I am positive that I am a good person and I've worked very hard on that.
PHILOSOPHY
Leave the world a better place than it was when you got here. Make yourself count.
"Man is equally incapable of seeing the nothingness from which he emerges and the infinity in which he is engulfed."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love the CS meetups. I participate in them by going. When I am more settled, I want to host people. CSers are so nice, and in turn make me feel like being nice too!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couchsurfing people are far nicer and more trusting than the average joe. It's nice having someone and *bam!* you're fast friends. I've had only great experiences.
Interests
You could help me figure this one out. College took all of my time!
I like pretty things. Pretty colors. I can rearrange your furniture to make your pad a lot prettier. I'm not an interior designer because I'd feel silly doing that.
I am a curator of cute internet videos. Like ducks and bunnies getting into trouble. It helps me when I think the world is ugly. Cuteness gets you far.
I like helping people. I'm a bone marrow donor, and I'm growing my hair out for Locks for Love. If you want to be a registered donor, go to bethematch.org.
I'm also really interested in learning to be happy. I very much believe that it is something that can be learned and practiced and fostered. Some people don't have to think about it, and others do, and I am one of the others. It's something I like hearing from CSers...what makes them happy.

Music, Movies, and Books
I don't have a TV, but I like Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Mad Men.
I pretty much grew up in a record store. I had thousands of records before I went to college and sold them. I have three external hard drives full of music, and yes, I've listened to them all. So, here's a short list of what I have listened to most recently:
Telekinesis, Cut Off Your Hands, Echo and the Bunnymen, Spiritualized, Spacemen 3, Belle and Sebastian, Broadcast, British Sea Power, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Clinic, Supergrass, Marshall Crenshaw, Son Seals, Radiohead, Six Organs of Admittance, Buke and Gass, The Dum Dum Girls, Surfer Blood, White Fence, and Vivian Girls.
I can play guitar, but only when no one is listening.
I worked at an independent bookstore for years. I read a lot. I like reading about behavioral economics and psychology.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I made a guy who held me hostage for an hour cry. He still took my money, but I made him think. That made me think.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to make the best vegan blondies. I'm not vegan, but usually don't have eggs. I can teach you about environmental policy. I can help you figure out how to fix and build things. I can share with you the infinite cuteness and wisdom that come with cute animal videos. You will see.
