About Me

2024 update:

I'm a neuropsychologist and neuroscientist with a vibrant passion for the arts, music, and the transformative power of shared experiences.

Life's adventures have taught me the profound value of empathy, understanding, and the magic that unfolds when we open our doors and hearts to strangers who soon become friends. My wonderful partner, Lia, a creative soul and makeup artist for a multinational cosmetics company, and I cherish the moments we spend learning from others, as much as we love sharing our own slice of the world.

Though I've dedicated years to studying the mind and its intricacies, it's the simple, heartfelt interactions that truly enrich my life. Whether it's strumming chords on my guitar with friends or engaging in deep conversations over a shared meal, these are the moments that matter most.

Our journey recently took a pause, as I focused on my masters studies in Ireland and returned to Brazil to support my mother through a challenging time as she battled cancer. Because of that, we weren't able to host as we wanted and took a break from the Couchsurfing community. Now, with my mother's health improving, Lia and I are eager to reconnect with the global community, to share our space, stories, and to create new, unforgettable memories.

As we embark on a healing journey to Europe this year, we're excited to reignite old friendships and spark new ones. We believe in the power of travel, not just to see new sights, but to heal, grow, and transform.

So, here's to the roads we've traveled and the ones yet to be discovered. We can't wait to meet you and weave new stories together.

Warmest regards,

Flaviano (and Lia).

Teach, Learn, Share

In this journey of life, I believe every interaction is an opportunity to teach, learn, and share. Here's a glimpse into what Lia and I bring to the table:

Things We Can Teach:

Music and Guitar Playing: I can share the joy of music, teaching the basics of guitar playing, from chords to melodies, and even delve into the creative process of songwriting.

Artistic Expression: Lia, with her expertise as a makeup artist, can offer insights into the art of makeup, from everyday looks to creative and theatrical makeup techniques.

Psychological Insights: With my background in neuropsychology and neuroscience, I can offer a basic understanding of how our brains work, discuss topics related to mental health, and share techniques for managing stress and enhancing well-being.

Cultural Exchange: We can teach about Brazilian culture, traditions, and the Portuguese language, offering a taste of our rich heritage through stories, music, and maybe even some traditional cooking.

Things We Wish to Learn:

Cultural Stories and Histories: We are eager to learn about the cultures, traditions, and histories of the places we visit and the people we meet. Every person has a story, and we cherish these narratives.

Local Cuisines: We love exploring local cuisines and learning to cook traditional dishes. If you're willing to share your favorite recipes, we're eager students!

Language Exchange: While we're on our travels, we're keen on picking up phrases or conversational skills in new languages. Language is a bridge to understanding culture more deeply.

Music from Around the World: We're fascinated by the diversity of music across cultures. If you play an instrument or have a unique musical style from your country, we'd love to learn about it.

Things We Can Share:

Life Experiences and Stories: We've navigated through various highs and lows, and we're open to sharing these life lessons, from traveling tales to personal growth stories.

A Warm and Welcoming Space: Whether it's a meal, a conversation over tea, or a jam session, we're all about sharing moments that turn into cherished memories.

Support and Empathy: Having been through our share of challenges, we understand the value of a listening ear and a supportive shoulder. We're here to share empathy and understanding with those we meet.

Creative Collaboration: Whether it's through music, art, or brainstorming on creative projects, we love collaborating with others to create something new and beautiful.

For us, Couchsurfing isn't just about a place to stay; it's about these exchanges that enrich our lives and the lives of those we meet. We're excited to continue this journey of teaching, learning, and sharing with each new friend we make along the way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When staying with hosts, Lia and I aim to contribute positively to their lives and homes in various ways:

Culinary Experiences: We're excited to prepare and share a traditional Brazilian meal, offering a taste of our culture through dishes we've grown up with and love.

Music and Entertainment: As a guitar player, I'd be delighted to share music, teach some chords, or simply enjoy an evening filled with melodies and songs.

Artistic Touch: Lia can offer a makeup session, sharing her expertise in makeup artistry, or even conduct a mini-workshop on creative makeup techniques.

Wellness and Mindfulness: With a background in psychology, I can share techniques for stress reduction, mindfulness, and promoting mental well-being.

Language Exchange: We'd love to teach Portuguese to those interested and are always eager to learn new phrases or improve our skills in the language of our hosts.

Cultural Sharing: Engaging in conversations about Brazilian culture, traditions, and history, we aim to provide a deeper understanding of our rich heritage.

Practical Help: We're more than willing to lend a hand around the house, whether it's helping with chores, gardening, or any ongoing projects where an extra pair of hands might be useful.

By sharing these aspects of ourselves, we hope to create meaningful connections, enrich our mutual understanding of different cultures, and make our stay a memorable and reciprocal experience for our hosts.
