About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Purple elephants and pineapples

ABOUT ME

Love to run, walk, hike, bike - anything to do with the outdoors basically. I grew up on a farm with 400 acres and sometimes I miss it now that I'm in a rowhouse in the middle of the city.

PHILOSOPHY

"Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you're destined for.
But don't hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you're old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you've gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich."
~Cavafy

This pretty much sums it up.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting, promoting, eventually will be couchsurfing!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In undergrad I traveled on spring breaks to visit friends and slept on their couches/floors. Once at Wellesley College my friend had an air mattress for me but we would never think to inflate it until right before bed. And we were drinking every night. And it was one of those that can only be inflated with a vacuum cleaner. So basically we ended up breaking the vacuum and I slept on the hardwood floor. Still a fun trip though!

Interests

Reading, cards, running (or any type of sports - I'll play even if I'm bad), politics (used to be actively involved, now just an observer but I might run for office one day), watching football on TV, hiking

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't watch many movies - I like Audrey Hepburn though.

Any type of music - country is my favorite since that's what I grew up with.

Books - Way too many to put here. Most recently read Freakonomics, The World is Flat, and Little Women (its a childhood favorite).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I traveled to Egypt and was able to go in one of the pyramids. Amazing. I also rode a camel through the desert and took a boat ride down the Nile.

The most incredible thing I have ever done was to run the Athens marathon (the "original" marathon). I almost gave up at the 22nd mile but somehow I finished. Crossing the finish line was the proudest moment of my life so far.

Teach, Learn, Share

I grew up on a small farm in Ohio. I know how to train pigs, sheep, and beef cattle to take to the fair. This skill is completely useless in real life, but interesting.

I'm also a huge public policy nerd. I can tell you about random public policy initiatives from the 1980s and the effects they have today. My grad school friends and I sit around the lounge at school and bore everyone else with our policy discussions.
