About Me

I'm Tania, and I'm a web developer (former chef) living in Chicago.

For anyone visiting Chicago, I'd love to meet up with you and show you around. I live right by the beach, and there's plenty of great trails for biking or walking, coffee shops, restaurants, and bars in the area. If nothing else, you at least have to try Lou Malnati's deep dish pizza while you're here.

As a nerd, I'm also going to recommend you go to one of our arcade bars, like Replay or Uptown Arcade. Craft beer and old school video games, what more could you want?

If you want to talk code at ALL, I'm down.

Meanwhile, I spontaneously booked flights around Europe this summer, so hopefully I'll see you there!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Meeting people, of course! Whether here at home in Chicago, or abroad. Travelers are amazing people with so many stories to tell, and I love to hear them.

I love the outdoors, so if you want to hike, bike, walk, or just hang out at restaurant, let's hang out!

I'm interested in connecting with people while I'm in Europe and taking plenty of midwest road trips and weekend flights when I get back.

Interests

I'm just a repository of hobbies. From coding to drawing to recording music, I like to get my creativity out. If I have a free weekend, I'm probably grabbing a friend to come along with me, whether it's a rock climbing trip in Kentucky, camping in Wisconsin, or local concert.

Music, Movies, and Books

Lately I've been listening to a lot of alternative/indie/pop stuff - anything that has a great bass line, synth, piano, or accordion.

Like anyone else my age, I loved Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and books of that ilk growing up. I recently read the Song of Ice and Fire series. Dystopian fiction will always be good. Would love to hear any suggestions!

Favorite shows are Futurama, 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, and Silicon Valley. (And of course, GoT!)

Epic adventure movies are the best.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably my career change from chef to web developer. It was a huge, self-actualizing moment for me. I quit my job, camped and hiked solo for a week, then decided what I wanted to do with the rest of my life (for now!)

Teach, Learn, Share

First and foremost, my biggest hobby is making web development tutorials, so if you have any website related questions, I'm the person to ask! I speak fluent Spanish and English, so I'd be more than willing to help with those.

I spent 8 years working as a chef before I started my current career, so I'd be down for cooking together as well.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I live in a cheap studio on the north side of Chicago, so not a lot of space for activities or sleeping. I do have a Nintendo and Super Nintendo, if that entices you to hang out.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
