About Me

Hey Buddy,

my name is Florian Maass. I am a german backpacker travelling through australia with high ambitions about which places I want to visit. I am a easy-going guy with a simple attitude. I was born and raised in Hamburg, Germany and I still love my home town. But at some point while I was at work I made the dicision for a change.
I had enough of the same day, every day so I decided to travel and see the world. I packed my Backpack, saved a bit of money and went to Australia.

Why espacially Australia? I'm not sure. I guess its just becaus you can read so much about backpacking and work & travel in Australia and I thought it can't be that difficult if so many people are doing it.

I love this way of life. The attitude just to life for today. Dont know whats going on tomorrow so no need to worrie about it. If I don't like a place any more I just leave and look for something else to explore.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The first time I heard about Couchsurfing was when a friend of mine went to canada for travelling. She told me how awesome it is with Couchsurfing.

The best way to meet locals and make new friends. I mean, at the end thats one meaning of travelling, isn't it? I am not looking for the tourist tours. I want to explore the streets of a country and learn the real local life. The best way to do so is to meet locals.

Interests

Travel
I started travel in January 2015. My journey to and through Australia is my first time out of europe and the first real travel I did. I was in a lot of different holidays with family and already some places but thats not what I mean when I talk about travelling. Travelling is more the experience to be on your own with nothing more than your backpack and the stuff you could fit in and no clue what your next step is. Thats what I am enjoying every day since then.

Music
Music is life. Music is art. Music is important. Music can mean so much, music can touch me in a way nothing else can. I just need music in my life. Music can paint in color where everything else is just grey.

Sports
I enjoy watching european football. My favorite Club is my local club in my hometown "HSV" but I enjoy every kind of football. Even if I have to play it on my own.

The sport I am doing is actually tennis. I like to watch it but I am not very up to date. But I played for 13 years before I left home so if you looking for a match. I'll be there.

MOVIE
There are a lot of movies i like. I can't list them all and it's a bit hard to name my taste but I like every movie with a good and believable plot. I don't need the big special effects, even if they are a nice part of a movie. I think the story and the actors are much more important. This is why I like movies like "Into The Wild" (An incredible story) or "Dark Knight" (Sorry, but Heath Ledger as the Joker is one of the best performance I ever seen).
I love Disney. I haven't watch every movie now, but I like the the idea behind those movies and sometimes I like the movies for entertaining myself. I think my favorite Disney movie is "The Lion King" but the new ones can be good, too.

BOOKS
My favorite author is Stephen, the King himself. "The Dark Tower" is one of the best books I ever read. Tolkien is very good, too. And Kim Harrison or Henning Mankel are good authors. Especially Henning Mankel has his own style to write. The books of Mankell are the only crime fiction I read.
Like movies, there are a lot of Books I like but i can't name them all.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are actually two thing I can mention here.
Both of them happened while my australia travel because I never really did some amazing stuff before.

The first thing is defenetly my time of the tall ship Soren Larsen in the Sydney Harbour. I worked and lived on board for 10 week together with a bunch of other backpackers. It was the best work place I ever had. I mean, I worked every day in front of the sydney skyline on a wooden tall ship in summer. What could be better?

The second story is about my sailing trip at the east coast of australia. I just saw a post on facebook and joined a guy named Ian to sail a 28ft boat from Bundaberg up to airlie beach. On this journey I found the most wonderful place I ever saw and I would ove to tell you more about it.
