About Me

Hey you out there,

I'm Flo, a young curious guy from Germany, and it is a wish of mine to travel many places of our beautiful planet in order to learn more about all the variety there is in people, culture, languages, nature, and finally educate myself about the wide range of life that exists in (and challenges) our time. Although some people try hard not to see it, life where I come is - not only within the German society - full of interdependences, but also does not happen independently from so many other lives happening around the entire globe - in many joyful as in many sad ways. This is why over time I want to open my eyes for more and more of those different intertwining places and existences making our world.

Unfortunately I’m currently not able to offer any couch or roof, since I’m mostly either living at (rather say: in) my workplace (currently amidst the mountains of the Alps), or out of my backpack. I'm looking forward though to one day giving back much of the great hospitality I’ve received.

A bit about me: I studied Architecture and Philosophy and have done lots of Theatre, Dance and Music in the past years, and also lots and lots of different jobs, in the middle of big city life as well as straight in the middle of sometimes dusty, sometimes snowy, anyways always impressive nature-made surroundings.

If there's anything coming up - from some cooking over a camping trip to an exhibition or concert, or just a chat by the river - and you feel like sharing that moment, then I might wanna share it with you. Since I’m a solo traveller though taking in many quiet moments with myself and a place too, I’m generally very modest and independent, and I also understand if you may barely have any time yourself.

Saying that, I'm more than glad if I can share a few moments with my hosts, and I have great respect for anyone offering their shelter, hospitality and curiosity and a piece out of their existence, if they are just in the middle of a busy life.

So if you're keen to host or even to catch up for some activities, let me know. :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In 2014, when I first tried to complete my Couchsurfing profile, sitting in the Alhambra's garden in Granada in Spain, a young man from Wroclaw sitting across from my bench made me put down my phone, and took me to his own CS hosts’ place, and we spent a beautiful night in Granada, all together.

Since then I’ve often had the luck to meet great people spontaneously offering a shelter, time, food, home-made Schnaps and lots of warmth at places far away from (almost) everything, to a traveller literally knocking on their door when coming past their house.

Sometimes though, especially big cities can feel too anonymous and also the thought of having to search for a shelter can appear too intimidating, and that’s where CS can not only help find a place to sleep, but rather than that be a beautiful way of - if you feel in the mood to do so - meet locals with whom sharing a piece of time and space appears to be the right to do thing for both sides.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Anything that’s not in the charts from funky over jazzy and bluesy and rocky to hip hop to electronic to chilled to there’s-no-term-for-it-or-we-just-don’t-know-it to just have the car window down and listen to sound of the tyres on the road and the wind in the bushes and leaves and ears and eyes and nose and hair. And after 13 years of touring with a choir around the world (and staying in amazingly welcoming host families) always up for classical too. And for what you show me that fascinates you.

Books: Currently I’m reading ‘Debt: The first five-thousand years’ by David Graeber.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve built a huge kitchen, lived under the same roof with over fifty people, crossed an ocean to become an uncle, and had the chance to spend quiet moments seeing, hearing, feeling, and breathing in so much beauty already, be it human-made, or still (almost) untouched by us.

Teach, Learn, Share

New languages. (Currently I’m trying to keep up with my newly gained and often strangely looked-at variety of Swiss German.) Wanna learn of those I speak - let me know.

Living in general.
