Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Some of you may or may not know this, but couchsurfing is not, from its origin till now, meant to be the way to get generous, good-hearted "locals" to save money for badly-organized travelers who realize that they are arriving in Paris the following day, have not bothered to look for a place to stay and don't want to pay for a hostel. Most of us who host quite a bit are happy to help out when such a situation arises, but we also don't like to be taken advantage of. Part of the mutual respect that should occur between surfer and host comes from spending 15 minutes to fill out your profile correctly (with more than one picture), telling us when you're actually arriving and why you would like to stay with any one of us in particular. We've all been poor students at one time or another, and that is not a good enough reason. And saying that you're "cool, laid-back and open-minded" is not very original either. It will pay off. Guaranteed!
