ABOUT ME
Basically I'm a nice and outgoing person. I enjoy a lot of things in life. Friendship, good food, music and a good story (I like to hear stories, I read books, watch movies and used to play a lot of roleplaying games).
I don't have the tendency to believe things that come without proof. I'm not religious and not a conformist.
I don't like statements like: "Because it's supposed to be that way," and "We do that because that's what we always have done."
I have a natural tendency to think about things and ask questions. I try to be a logical person. Logic on the other hand doesn't lead to happiness. So I try to find a balance between accepting the world as it is while trying not to stop caring about it.
Describing my political orientation is difficult in a international setting because words like 'liberal' and 'progressive' have very different meanings in different countries. (I won't even start about the 'left' or 'right' discussion because I think the distinction exists in theory only and is for the most part something historical.)
Even in The Netherlands there is no consensus about the meaning of these words and a couple of political parties with very different values call themselves 'liberal' or 'progressive'.
Basically I believe that the government should do as little as possible and care about safety and security without harming the freedom of the individual. (Therefore government should be small and smart.) Let the people make their own choices as long as they don't harm the freedom of others. I think 'live and let live' is important but we shouldn't forget that freedom is something you have to protect in an active way (Like the movie Team America taught us: Freedom isn't free).
In the meantime I make stupid drawings about unicorns: http://www.unicornpresents.com/ Why? Just because I can, no filosofy or logical reason there :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
CouchSurfing is amazing. It's such a simple concept and it really works! Bringing people together is easy, you just need some kind of idea and an infrastructure (which is -in this case- a rather elaborate word for a website).
