We are a couple of history students/teachers, with a shared interest for Spain, Portugal & Latin America (and many other places actually), always looking for either interesting conversation and / or night time fun, preferably both simultaneously (-:

PHILOSOPHY

A person is what he or she does, we guess. So, travelling and pursuing an intellectual endeavor at the same time in our case. We're keen on forging an understanding of people and places we meet, and talk about it, and keep thinking. Now, that does leave a few hours per day for just having fun...

Me imagino que uno es lo que hace. Entonces, viajar y llevar a cabo un proyecto intelectual en nuestro caso. Nos importa elaborar un entendimiento de las personas y los lugares con que nos cruzamos, hablarlo y seguir pensando. Ahora, eso si que nos deja un par de horas diarias para divertirnos...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now we live in a very small flat in Paris, so we aren't able to host anyone till we move to some place bigger (no couch !). However one of us (Félix) had a nice experience hosting fellow couch surfers a few years ago in Buenos Aires. In the meantime we participate by surfing and trying to meet nice & interesting people in the places we visit while traveling.

En este momento estamos viviendo en un departamento muy exiguo en Paris, por lo que no podemos albergar a nadie hasta que nos mudemos a un lugar mas grande. Sin embargo uno de nosotros (Félix) tuvo una linda experiencia hospedando couchsurfers en Buenos Aires hace un tiempo. Por el momento participamos surfeando y tratando de conocer gente en los lugares que atravesamos mientras viajamos por Europa.

History (both a job and a personal fascination, so I guess that's what to be mentioned first). Music (listener only unfortunately) ; films ; literature ; soccer (watching) ; tennis (playing) ; hiking ; talking about politics / philosophy / soccer tactics / whatever till dawn.

Historia (un trabajo y una pasion personal a la vez, por lo que lo menciono primero). Musica (nada mas que escucharla, desafortunadamente) ; cine ; literatura ; ver futbol, jugar al tenis ; largas caminatas ; hablar de politica / filosofia / tacticas futboleras / lo que sea hasta el amanecer.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music : klezmer comes first, then gypsy music, jazz, classical, ethnic, almost anything (not too keen on rock / rap / metal though, but these are just worlds to which I still need an introduction).

Books : lots of them ; history of course ; literature. Lately I've loved Vassili Golovanov (Eloge des voyages insensés in French, a wonderful book about what you do and do not find / build while travelling), and Pablo Ramos (young sanguine Argentine writer, both bitter and devastatingly humorous). Gonna be famous, some time. Both of them, hopefully.

Movies : Satyajit Ray, Almodovar, Tarantino, Kusturica come first to my mind ; Humphrey Bogart of course ; would like to know more about Argentine and other Latin American movies.

Musica : klezmer primero, también musica gitana, jazz, musica clasica, musicas tradicionales, casi todo (no soy de escuchar mucho rock / metal / hip hop pero son universos a los que simplemente no he sido introducido todavia).

Cine : Satyajit Ray, Almodovar, Tarantino, Kusturica me vienen inmediatamente a la mente ; Humphrey Bogart, claro ; me encatria saber mas del cine argentino y latino-americano.

Libros : muchos de estos ; de historia, de literatura. Recientemente me han encantado el Elogio de los viajes insensatos de Vassili Golovanov (un libro maravilloso sobre lo que se encuentra y construye y lo que no cuando uno va viajando), y Pablo Ramos (joven escritor argentino, sanguineo, a la vez amargo y terriblemente humoroso). Van a ser famosos estos dos, algun dia.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling through South America by bus while working on a book project (still in progress !), or biking through southern France's wonderful landscapes. Not amazing, just fun and full of nice memories.

Viajar por Sudamérica en bus mientras trabajaba en un proyecto de libro (todavía por terminar !), o recorrer los lindos paisajes del Sur francés en bicicleta. Mucho placer y lindas memorias por ahí!

What I Can Share with Hosts

A good meal (we can cook), a beer, nice conversation, short or long walks, discovering the places we travel through…or anything else we may think of upon our meeting !

Buena comida (cocinamos), alguna cerveza, charlar, caminatas cortas o largas, aprender a conocer los lugares por los que viajamos…o cualquier otra actividad que se nos ocurra cuando nos encontremos !
