About Me

CURRENT MISSION

on especial assignment to myself, but willing to consider a mission if the potential is big enough

ABOUT ME

I was born in Peru but moved to the US at age 14, while my family stayed in Peru. At age 12 I studied Russian and russian culture which got me a free trip to the Soviet Union. Seeing those two oposite sides of the world would shape my life forever. From very young I realized how misguided people can be about other people because of ignorance, fear and propaganda. Almost as soon as I could afford it, after graduating from college I started to travel, then one day I decided to quit my job, sell everything I had, and travel with my backpack. In January 2007 after traveling for 9 months, I fell in love with Buenos Aires and I have lived there since. Now I am on a backpacking trip to the north of Argentina, Paraguay and possibly Brazil and Uruguay.

PHILOSOPHY

I used to be one of those whose mission was to change the world. I realized that it wasn't possible, I'm too insignificant for that. So, instead I'm now trying the opposite, I'm just letting the world change me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Spreading a little known secret: "you can do it too!", you can do what your forefathers could only have dreamed of, you can throw a few pairs of underwear (if they are clean you get extra points) into a backpack and you can go! You can see the world too and you don't need much money!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A few years ago it seemed like a constant stream of couchsurfers going thru my place. For the most part they've been old friends coming by and visiting.

Interests

Travel, meeting interesting people from far away countries, far away cultures. I have developed an interest for human pyschology. I enjoy tennis and swimming for exercise. I also am interested in healthy lifestyles, contact with nature. And thanks to my friend Sasha, I now love dogs! In fact I got Stanley, the Couchsurfing dog, the best couchsurfer I ever had! LOL

Music, Movies, and Books

I love biographies.
Before I started traveling I read several of Osho's books. I guess he is still my favorite author (even though he never wrote a single book) and still inspires me.
Music, I like everything, although prefer spanish.
Movies, yeap, like those too...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A very poor Palestinian falafel street vendor refusing to charge me because I was a visitor to his country, an Indian Wedding, a balloon ride in Capadoccia (Turkey), kids in the jungle of Peru wanting to play "who can climb that fruit tree quicker" with me, a wedding party in Cali (Colombia) with 3 amazingly beautiful girls almost fighting for me, flying an airplane, crash landing an airplane (with no injuries to myself, the plane was recked), kids from a little town in Estonia looking at me like if I was an extra-terrestrial being... and many many more... The thing I'm most proud of though, is just being able to leave a good life behind, and travel around the world with 0 regrets and living life with an intensity I hadn't imagined possible.

Teach, Learn, Share

Traveling I have met hundreds of truly amazing people and I have learned a lot from them. There are wonderful human beings in every manmade country. We are all so similar and there are forces that profit from creating divisions between us, from ignorance. Traveling the world is the most eye opening experience. For me one of the best lessons came while traveling in India and in Palestine, and seeing how even in the middle of misery people can be wonderful, but at the same time, often blind.
