Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Did have wonderful CS experience. We started our experience in Swiss and northern Italy and met wonderful interesting ,hospitable people. This is the best way to travel and meet people.

Now for some important observations that I feel are necessary to share after many years of hosting:
First: I have hosted many travelers since I started out with CS 12 years ago. It has been a predominately positive experience. However, over the past several years I have noticed an increasingly common trend - that of confirmed guests cancelling at the last moment, even, at times, without notification. Now I understand that the kind of travelers using CS tend to travel with the flow, improvising as they go along, and that's fine. However, travelers should be considerate of the needs of those who are opening their homes to them. In short, once a stay has been confirmed, it should be treated as much as possible as an obligation. Otherwise, as an active host, it is next to impossible to organize.
I know that many travelers request stays at a number of places in the same destination - understandable. But indicating to more than one host of one's firm intention to stay at their home, then choosing one at the last minute - this should be avoided. We all have to respect each other in this interesting experiment in human interaction, and I do expect that from my potential guests.
