About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Live life till I can no longer do so - and stay curious

ABOUT ME

**** before you read further, I NO LONGER LIVE IN DUBLIN
I am in the country - in a beautiful area about 140km north west of Dublin.

So far, I've had no luck in changing my address on my profile but, if it's a couch in Dublin, I can't help. Couchsurfers with a car - no problem, without a car, if you want to walk about in nature and have a quiet time - good couch for you and you'll also be welcome to join me on my Rambles 'round Roosky

http://rooskyrambles.blogspot.ie

I'm a singer/songwriter with a bit of a day job which pays the bills. I work from home so on weekdays I'm happy if my guests are gone off exploring by 10:30.

Please read my full profile before sending a request - there are hidden filters in it. I have recently found that I'm getting far more requests than I can handle and even replying to all takes time. I really don't want to spend time replying to obvious 'cut & paste' requests. Yesterday, my worst ever pair of CSers left - 3 days and hardly any interaction is not what I believe couchsurfing to be about but I'm thankful that they at least have finally got me around to the chore of updating my profile.

I live with a large, friendly - and often pretty smelly dog - Clara*. If your not 100% comfortable around dogs, wrong couch. (My house is really cold in the winter so surfers will need warm clothes. The fold out - and comfortable bed settee sleeps 2 and, if you have sleeping bags of sheets - great. I can sort you out with something if not. The room the couch is in is my living room and I would like to use it during the day but won't smoke in it during your stay. I don't usually go to bed before 1am so, if your and early to bed person - wrong couch). - in brackets is old info - I've moved.*

On smoking. If you smoke, cigarettes are almost 13 euro a pack in Ireland so - coming from most other countries, you'd be advised to bring enough with you for your stay. If you're coming from outside the EU, get some duty-free at the airport. If you don't smoke and are coming from a country where cigarettes are much cheaper, I'd be really thankful if you'd bring a carton - for which I'll pay you on your arrival (will discuss the brand with CS request but do please mention it when requesting my couch)

I sometimes cook and couchsurfers are welcome to eat with me and if you cook a meal (my kitchen is fairly grotty) - I appreciate that too. My house is also fairly messy - my dog's hobby, apart from chasing squirrel, and swimming and walking in the parks, is moulting and I get around to using the vacuum cleaner quite rarely.

People who do stay here do seem to enjoy - see references - and will sometimes come out walking with the dog or join me at a music night and CSers are welcome here too. On music, 'I like all kinds of music' is often stated in a request. I have a fair bit of music up online. On soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/sean-oneill-songs - I have almost 100 tracks up - from really rough demos to my 3 albums (fourth on the way) and before sending a request, please check it out and maybe even leave a comment (even if it's to say you hate it). There are links on the songs which are on the album and if you spend 99c (US) buying a track on CD Baby of iTunes - great! Your request will get priority - I'll even refund your 99c if you're broke.

I hope I haven't filtered out ALL requests and thank you for reading this far - I'd like to make your (and my) Couchsurfing experiences fantastic.

* Clara is no longer chasing squirrels. She died on 1st February 2019 - she was over 100 in dog years.
** I have moved into a newish house in the country - Co Roscommon and have a spare room with a single bed and I also have a blow up mattress (double)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

share my home and sometimes, share somebody elses

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was married - it only lasted 26 years - I would fairly often pick up hitch-hikers. Once, an American girl told me she was going to Inch. I asked if she knew people there and she told me she didn't.

The particular Inch she was heading for had nothing much to offer and so I asked her why. She told me that a friend had been some years before and had told her that it was one of the most beautiful beaches she's ever seen.

Wrong Inch, I told her and it was about 100 miles the wrong way.

Brought her home, my wife cooked big meals too, gave her a bed and dropped her on the road to the Kerry, Inch in the morning.

Music, Movies, and Books

lots of movies, Paris Texas and Oh Brother Where Art Thou? stand out.
Leonard Cohen has to be the coolest man on the planet. John Prine and Guy Clark are among my favourite writers.
Loved Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud so much that I haven't read anything much since.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sold enough copies of my 1st CD - single and left handedly to meet Irish requirement for a Gold disc. Travelled through every county in Ireland, 32 in all, and sang to at least one small audience and sold at least one CD in each county - in 7 days.

Most amazing thing I've seen though is my 3 babies grow into fine, caring human beings.

Teach, Learn, Share

Took 47 years to write my first song and I've written a few hundred since. I think I can 'kick start' someone who wants to write and doesn't.

I'd like to improve my guitar playing
