About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Planning a caving trip in Vietnam for 2016.

ABOUT ME

Whitewater kayaker, risk taker, "mama duck". That last one is the nickname my friends gave me for my penchant to watch over everyone else.

I'm a professional who loves her job, a proud parent, and a great sister. I have a serious travel bug and am fortunate to have a husband who suffers from the same affliction.

I'm also lucky to live near some of the best whitewater in the world, which draws enthusiasts from all over.

PHILOSOPHY

You may not feel like you have chosen this path, but there is no denying that in this moment, this is exactly where you are. Look around and embrace your blessings.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm offering up a potential couch to travelers who'd like to experience Northern California. I also enjoy meeting other CouchSurfers on my travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

While solo car camping through Maui I met up with another CouchSurfer who was traveling on her own. We had a great day exploring Paia together!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Things I’ve done:
*Lived in a Vegas hotel for more than a week. Been on a first name basis with the club floor host and nightclub manager
*Broken into a car with a hammer
*Broke my tailbone in the first mile of a 9 mile river run – finished the run
*Had a black eye – and was proud of it
*Discovered the subtle yet life-altering difference between rock oysters and komodo oysters
*Taken a private lesson from a Ritz-Carlton chef on how to prepare the perfect steak
*Jumped out of a perfectly good plane
*Visited the capitol of the United States - wished for more time
*Driven over 2000 miles in 2 days – alone
*Ordered items not on the menu in a famous chef’s signature restaurant
*Ripped out a tile floor with a sledge hammer
*Addressed a government committee - on television
*Assisted with a death-penalty appeal
*Enjoyed fresh sashimi and sake
*Camped overnight in the woods by myself – listened to a bear wander through my camp in the morning
*Had a friend for more than 10 years
*Turned down a six-figure job to start my own business
*Been forced to sell my home because I turned down a six-figure job
*Realized it was worth it.
*Been target shooting – repeatedly
*Performed karaoke – and promised to never do it again
*Killed, dressed, and cooked a turkey – then ate it
*Filmed and edited a short movie – was outraged when marketing a-holes cut it by 75%
*Brewed cordials – became quite good at it
*Been devastated by loss
*Felt God’s direct influence in my life
*Loved
*Had my heart broken
*Loved again
*Guest at a traditional wedding in Southern India

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a decent cook, a good baker, and a better than average mixologist. I can explain why it matters which direction you slice your shallots and the virtues of stainless steel over hard-anodized cookware. I have a fully loaded kitchen with all the bells and whistles just waiting for you to explore.

Two week old eggs are best when hard-boiling. Fresh eggs are best for baking, especially when you need a light/fluffy texture.

I'm studying acoustic guitar and Italian. Slowly. And French. And Vietnamese. Very Slowly.

I'm interested in learning... Everything.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, French Polynesia, India, Maldives, Mexico, New Zealand, United States
