About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Never without art

ABOUT ME
URGENT: We are so sorry for having to put this on first thing but bare in mind that we consider the reference part of the cs community quintessential.
Anyhow, if you don't feel this way either as a host, a surfer or attendee please don't consider our request-profile-event.
We put a lot of work to make the best host-surfers we can and when we see that our hosts, surfers or attendees don't take the tiny time to put a reference on, it just stops being inspiring and the cs community if anything doesn't deserve this. It's all about the exchange and the acknowledgement of that, NOT the free couch or event.

We are a couple of archaeologists. Our everyday routine includes speaking with ancient corpses and reading walls of hieroglyphics in seconds. Apart from that we are ordinary people who enjoy travelling, cooking, reading and collecting everything that could be considered art. Cause our motto is never without art!!

PHILOSOPHY

Our personal philosophy and ambition is to get to know as many people and places as possible in the past the present and the future. We believe that there is no meaning in personal wealth and that money is just a means to accomplish and cherish experiences. You will never find us in the first seat neither in high class restaurants or fancy clubs. We respect nature and free camping is our ideal way of accommodation. We try to recycle and use second hand furniture and clothes since we believe that consumerism is one of the nastiest traits of western culture.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have participated in couch surfing and we have provided shelter to many people in our homeland and in London while we have been offered shelter in many places. We are very sensitive to backpackers since we have been one of them and our car in Greece has been a vehicle for many wandering comrades (an update: our little car has retired....so back on foot!)

We tent to build a special bond with every couch surfer we encounter and the least we can share (and already shared quite a few times)beyond dinner, all year round wishes, laughs and so much more, is our family place in Greece, nearby the sea...just another way to express filoxenia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We love to be part of the couch surfing community even though we cannot host people properly right now. We live in flatshare with other 7 people and there is no couch or living room in this property. However, any visitor in London can enjoy a very specialised and lively tour guide in the British Museum by two experts!!! or join the free walking tours we offer on couch surfing community!

Interests

We are devoted worshipers of travelling since our occupation enables us to travel constantly to participate in excavations (or at least it used to!). Until now we have worked and travelled in Albania, in Germany, in Jordan, Italy and various places in Greece and Cyprus.
We also love cooking since we believe that cooking is a cheap and efficient way to travel sensationally around the world through your kitchen. We collect fridge magnets which have made our fridge a mess.
Apart from that we are hooked on the work of some modern artists and we collect affordable works of art with the hope that some day we would be hanging in our walls works of the future Picasso or Van Gogh. It seems kind of cliché but it is our fate as archaeologists to love reading because unfortunately we cannot afford servants to read them for us!! Just kidding!! Books is our kingdom and our tiny room is pilled up with them. Furthermore we run a theatre group in Greece named Ubrellas! In this group we exercise improvisation and we execute several theatrical plays as worse as we can. Last but not least we enjoy photo shooting with our little camera and you can take a glimpse of that on our profile.

Music, Movies, and Books

Our music taste is multidimensional and it spans from 60's classic rock like Doors, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Simon and Garfunkel, Jimmy Hendrix and Beatles to 70's disco with Boney M and Diana Ross.
We also like Manu Chao and the Afro Celt Sound System alongside with Gotan Project.
As far as movies are concerned we download tons of them and we see one every night creating proper movie nights. Our top five includes (out of a thousand in our collection!): Novecento, Secrets and Lies, The Dead, The travelling players and Grease.
Since we are archaeologists we mainly read scholarly books and articles. However, in our scant free time we read some literature. Our favourite books includes Ulysses by James Joyce, On the Road by Jack Kerouac and the Animal Farm by George Orwell.
And our FAVOURITE tv series: Friends!! Just had to say this!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well, the most amazing thing we have ever done is the fact that despite several hardships we managed to climb on the highest peak of mount Olympus the highest mountain of Greece and by the way the house of the 12 gods. Well we went in August and we thought that it would be quite chilly. We got two large rucksacks and up we go. After 9hours of climbing we reached the peak and we discovered that the gods are not enjoying the Greek summer in Olympus and probably use heaters. Instead of chilly the weather was freezing with 4 Celsius degrees and us in t-shirts mumbling and crushing our teeth. When we finally reached the shelter everyone was wearing Robocop like coats and we felt like aliens or like mortals in front of the fully clothed gods of Olympus.

Teach, Learn, Share

We can teach you everything about Mediterranean cuisine and culture. It would be a pleasure to share with you tips and secrets of our fantastic city and we are more than happy to learn as much as possible form everyone we encounter. Every little thing matters!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Certainly we love to impress hosts with our culinary talents so dinner is a must. Obviously, we share our space and everything in it. And then there are the free eccentric walking tours of London we offer to couch surfing community, we welcome everybody there :-)
