About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Unusual travel requests are dancing lessons from God.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Seattle in an upper-middle class suburb. I dropped or flunked out of several schools and bounced from shit job to shit job until eventually catching a lucky break during the first dot-com boom of the late nineties. From there I was able to work my way from company to company, earning too much money to miserably slave away under fluorescent lights in a cubicle all day.

In desperate need of a change of scenery, I put in to transfer to [the company I was working for] office in the Bay Area. I didn't want to shell out for hostels while I was down there so my friend recommended Couchsurfing.com to me. My life has never been the same.

A few months later, I quit my job, gave away everything I owned, bought a rail pass and a backpack and hit the road in search of... what, exactly? I still haven't figured that out.

Maybe you can help.

PHILOSOPHY

"San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run, but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant. There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. And that, I think, was the handle - that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting - on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - the place where the wave finally broke and rolled back."

--Hunter S. Thompson

"All you care about is nugs, chillin' and grindage!"

--Dave Morgan

"I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."

--Sir Isaac Newton

"Like a rugged chain-smoking, intellectual, adventurer guy who's really serious, but also really funny and mean" --Enid Coleslaw

"No phone, no pool, no pets. I ain't got no cigarettes"

--Roger Miller

"Temba, his arms wide!"

--Dathon

"If I wasn't so drunk, I'd be dead right now."

--Famous last words

"You don't need a plan in Savannah. It works out better if you don't. I found that out the easy way."

--Chad Duncan

"I'm the commander -- see, I don't need to explain -- I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president."

--George W. Bush

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I truly believe that Couchsurfing is creating a global community that is still pure and tight-knit. I have met so many amazing people doing amazing things and it only gets better and better.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been Couchsurfing around North America for some time and before that I hosted nearly constantly in Seattle. I have found a home (for a while, anyway) in Savannah and I'm happy to be hosting again!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I met Don Dokken at Best Buy and talked with him for two hours. The next day he called me at home and invited me to a party on his houseboat. I didn't go.

I took a boat trip and saw hundreds of wild dolphins jumping and swimming all around the boat, then the guide suddenly dove into the water and tackled a sea turtle.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to play the musical saw. I can teach you everything you ever wanted to know about Star Trek.

I want to learn languages and instruments.
