About Me

down to earth, and love simplicity. I moved to the states in 2010, I’m entrepreneur.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It was in June last year when I decided to attend a local event organized by travelers visiting Los Angeles. At first I was kind of skeptical since I was literally walking into a restaurant alone where i did not know anyone, but that night became memorable and really special. That night I made really good friends. Eight different nationalities coming together to share culture, laughs and of course a few drinks.

Before all this there was this one night, where I found myself watching a speech online from a YouTube channel called TED Talks and as I was listening as the speaker mentioned CouchSurfing. He gave little details about it but then I researched for more information. I found out that CouchSurfing is an online community for travelers around the world that allowed people to connect and meet locally, travel in groups, host local gatherings or host a traveler at home on the couch. Because back then I was a little too naive, I immediately singed up. Lol.

As soon as I had access to my online dashboard, I looked for events near my location. One in particular got my attention, the event was “Fun, Fun Event in LA No. 2”. In the description it detailed information on where to meet and the time, we would gather for dinner at the Bacarro LA a cozy, stylish wine bar serving Italian tapas. When I recognized the group we instantly connect, and the conversations just flow. Then it was time to order. I have to say this; besides being a special event it was unusual as well, there were two individuals in the group with what it is to me a unique way of survival lol. One of them was vegetarian and the other was allergic to seafood.

As write about this incredible night, I cannot recall what we ordered. What I can remember is how much fun we all had. A guy from Italy, two girls from different parts of South Korea, another girl form Hong Kong, someone from India, another guy from Finland, a local guy from Los Angeles and I, from Guatemala. As we share the different dishes passing them on I guess we all felt humbled by everyone’s open mind. Everyone tasted every single dish, I was very satisfied myself, and I could not eat more.

This meal marked a milestone in everyone’s life. From that night we all started to hang out every weekend, like every single weekend for about six months, joining together to explore LA’s gastronomy. Koreatown was one neighborhood I had not explored before and with my new Korean friends that changed. Fish balls, a common food in southern China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asia became my favorite meal. Meeting these amazing people that night was very special and a unique experience, I had not had that connection in a long time. This is why that meal on that night in June two thousand fifteen will always be worth to remember.
