Overview
About Me
I grew up in Milwaukee, where my mom (who grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm) and my dad (who is from Nicaragua) met. My family was four boys and I was the oldest. As an adult, I've lived in the midwest, east coast, and now out here in California. Probably the happiest I am is when I make people laugh.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
In 2014 I quit my job. I spent over a year travelling in Latin America and the Middle East and hanging out in my hometown of Milwaukee. I saw the pyramids, I biked through Mexico, I went to the World Cup in Brazil. All great stuff! And now I've settled down, sort of, into an apartment and a job. So not much travelling for me for now... but the world can come to me! I met some super, super generous people when I traveled (not through this site, just in general), and I'd love to help some people as I was helped and meet cool people at the same time.
Interests
I love riding around on my bike through mostly empy city streets late at night. When I'd rush down 7th Avenue in New York through the canyons of white lights just for me, that was about the biggest thrill I could get. I'll go to comedy shows and rock shows any day of the week. I'm also a big sports fan and if my Packers (I am a shareholder) are playing, I'm probably watching.
Music, Movies, and Books
Mostly I want to hear what you can share with me... Music! Yes, all the time. Withered Hand, REM, Silver Jews, Enrique Iglesias, Alphaville, Songs: Ohia. Some excellent movies are: Apocalypto, Hoop Dreams, Little Miss Sunshine, Elf, Street Fight, and Interstellar. My favorite book is probably Never Let Me Go (Ishiguro) and some other favorites are Revolutionary Road (Yates) and My Antonia (Cather). I've got a bunch of old paperbacks and I keep them with the goal of passing them along to travelers passing through. That could be you.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hmm, well, I'm not an astronaut or a pro basketball player or anything, but I was proud of quiting my well paying job back in the day to go work (without pay) for someone I really believe in. (That guy is gonna be the second black President one day.) Oh, I once held my breathe for 3 minutes and 17 seconds.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm sure if we just start talking it'll get interesting pretty quick. I want to learn whatever you got for me.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I've got a pretty big main room to my place with a pull out bed that so nice you won't even know it's not a real bed. I actually used it for six weeks myself when I first moved to San Francisco and was staying with a friend and I liked it so much, I bought it off him. Towels! Hospitality! A buddy in the neighborhood. Pretty exciting stuff, I know.
