About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy everything and everyone in my life to the fullest.

ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in Ann Arbor. I know some of you might say that it's boring to live in the same place for so long, but Ann Arbor's a really nice little city and I'm very happy with it. I am proud of my city and love showing people around it. I went to the University of Michigan where I studied Economics and Russian. I now work at an economics consulting firm in Ann Arbor. I get to help people and companies sue companies like Microsoft for doing things that are anti-competitive. I really enjoy traveling, I think if money weren't an issue I would just be traveling all the time. I love to exchange interesting stories with the people I meet. I like to try new things, so if there is anything you'd like to do while you're staying with me or if I'm staying with you I'd be up for it.

Here's a cool visitor tracker :-)

PHILOSOPHY

My general philosophy is to never miss out on an opportunity to experience something you might enjoy. Time is too precious to waste it caring about what other people think or being afraid to take a risk. I want to die content that there wasn't a single thing I wanted to do that I didn't do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I not only want to stay with interesting people when I travel, but I want to host as many people as I can as well. It's hard, living in Ann Arbor you don't get very many requests, but I'm always open to hosting someone. I want to some day be the city ambassador for Ann Arbor.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had nothing but positive experiences using CouchSurfing. My first experience with it was the summer of 2007 when my girlfriend and I were traveling around Eastern Europe. We started in Germany and stayed with some really great people in Berlin and Leipzig. Our host in Berlin took us to a fruit blossom festival that we never would have known about had we not stayed with him. We got to sample lots of different fruit wines and marvel at the half meter long bratwurst. In Leipzig we stayed with someone who I think will be a good friend for many years to come. He took us to a tower overlooking the city, a little bar where we listened to techno and played foosball, and a non-profit nightclub attached to a student dorm. I also really enjoyed meeting our host in Helsinki as well as the people we've hosted or met through meetings.

Interests

Bowling, traveling, billiards, eating, broomball (if you don't know what it is you are really missing out), racquetball, playing football or soccer even though I'm really bad at both, watching movies or TV shows, the occasional video game.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived on a sail boat off the coast of Maine for three weeks. My first week and a half was spent on a boat about 10-12 feet long with eight other people. At night we spread the oars out and slept on top of them. The second week and a half was on a 120 foot long sailboat. Everything on it had to be done by hand, from pulling up the extremely heavy main sail, to raising and lowering the anchor, to climbing to the top of the 50 foot mast without any safety rope to tie the top sail. We usually just anchored the boat at night, but the one time we decided to sail through the night turned out to have the worst weather of the whole trip. The boat bucking up and down all night as huge waves crashed against it. We ran around in the driving rain trying to tend to the sail and everything else while also trying to keep the boat going straight. I don't think I've ever slept more soundly than after my shift ended and I was able to go down below, take off my rain gear and climb into my tiny bed.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to know anything about economic theory (particularly microeconomic theory), I can help you out with that. If you want to know how to cook some good food, thanks to my girlfriend I can also help you out with that.
