About Me

Travel is when you leave your home - the best way is by bike (and hitchhiking is great too)! =)
We do climbing too, indoors and sometimes outdoors.

I share my life (and the flat) with Laura. Check out her profile too! =)
http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/straigute

Here continues all about me :D
Notice how I like making lists...

Travel, teacher, maps, trains, bikes, climbing, walking, looking around the corner, playing with children, books, listening, sharing, "did you know that [insert fact]", concerts, staring out the window... and most important Dream! Explore! Discover!

I'm a quite social guy who loves to learn from others. Do tend to listen more than do the talking when it comes to people who obviously has some experience to share.

I believe in democracy, in sharing this world, in making yourself aware of the prejudiced thinking in you and helping others to see theirs. Ecology and living sustainably is also of vital importance for me.

Born and bred in Malmö. 20ish years later I moved to Stockholm where I worked and matured for 5 years. I left Sweden for Glasgow during fall 2010. Went there to try something new, trek the munroes, ride the trails, breath the air!! =) I became global in my way of thinking.

August 2012 was the time to leave Glasgow and start an eight month BigTrip with the goal to see as much as possible of Asia and Oceania with focus on Australia. Amazing developing times working on farms, meeting inspiring people and learning about nature, environment and the world!

Since May 2013 we are in Stockholm!
Here we learnt to do climbing and we are quite settled with lots of friends and stable jobs.

2015 I left my profession as a preschool teacher, reschooled and currently working at Lantmäteriet (similar to UK Ordnance Survey - MAPS!)

I've got an energy to move, a desire to travel in me that leaves me unhappy if I stay still too much. I'm sure I'm not alone!

PHILOSOPHY

That we all have equal right to share this world in a sustainable way working through the democratic rights. We all live under the same sun =)

InterRail is an amazing concept we used bunch of times to travel Europe by train. If you're not an EU-citizen it's called EuRail!

Patience to Listen - Patience to Learn - Patience to Understand

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been hosted during travels in Asia, Australia and Europe and I've hosted lots of people in Glasgow and Stockholm. I've gone to CS meetings, gotten myself verified and I tell everyone about this cool thing! As many others I met my ♥ through CouchSurfing! =)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

During travels, when socialising, I've been invited to stay with people who are not CSers! Been sleeping around friends places in Hamburg, Zürich, Bologna, Paris, London, Glasgow, Venice, Birmingham, Gent, Maastricht, Metz, Edinburgh, Dundee, Isle of Skye, Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Melbourne, Wanganui, New Plymouth, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Villach, Prague.

Some people have been friends of friends but it has mostly been people that I have met out in the real world during travels and made friends with them and then been offered a place to stay! You gotta have faith! =D

An amazing CouchSurf was Annika's tent in the Isle of Skye and another one was the time we had been talking with Laura and Kass for only 2 minutes on a bus in Sydney and then we were offered a place to stay! Not to mention when you hitch-hike and people take you in!

Also took the step 2011 to start hosting CouchSurfers as well =) As I said, faith in people is what the world needs!

Interests

Love travelling, especially by train, but even more by bike!

Wherever I go in my travels I often try to climb the highest places or buildings, seek myself down to rivers, lakes and oceans and try to travel by metros and trams to see as much as possible.

I absolutely love biking and try to do it as much as possible in my travels, and do it a lot at home. So far I got to do it in a few cities in Scotland, Bern, London, Melbourne, Malacca, Paris, Phom Penh, Siam Reap (Angkor Wat!), Vilnius, Villach, Bruxelles, Istanbul, Lyon, Barcelona, Warszawa, Krakow and counting! =)

We are climbers since 2015, mostly climbing indoors but a few times outdoors as well.

Music, Movies, and Books

You can explore my favourite books through my GoodReads account. Maybe we can inspire each other to read some new?
http://www.goodreads.com/arturhansson

Some mentions:
J.K. Rowling, Alexander McCall Smith, Amelie from Montmartre, Before Sunset, Into the Wild, Wes Anderson, Aamir Khan, Rent. Movies with trains in! :D

Since childhood my grandfather and my dad has subscribed to a magazine called Illustrated Science. A little bit of random knowledge has been added to my knowledge through the years! :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moved to Scotland and lived there for 20 months! Met my fiancé there and then we left Scotland to travel for 8 months in Australia, NZ and South East Asia. Now we are in the adventure of living together in Sweden and building a family! <3

Studied 3.5 years at university to start working in a preschool as the only guy... not very common around the world. And I've again studied to change career into maps and urban planning and it's so cool that after 10 years you are in a totally different career!

Walked on the Great Wall in China on Christmas day 2008.

InterRailed 2009 (west Europe), 2010 (whole Europe), 2011 (BeNeLux), 2014 (Switzerland), 2015 (Spain), 2016 (Balkan), 2017x2 (UK and Italy), 2018x2 (Poland/Ukraine and Portugal) and the last one was 2019 (wedding in the UK)!

Biked down the streets of Paris in the middle of the night screaming out of delight!! WOOOHOOO!!! (Now done it in a few more places!!)

Finally discovered the beautiful life in our waters when snorkelling in Indonesia and Malaysia - I met Nemo the Clown anemonefish! =D

Living on the edge!

Teach, Learn, Share

Dream. Explore. Discover.

I can share my way of thinking and listen to yours! I'll accept you the way you are!!

I can show you around wherever I am, talk about my view of Sweden, share my love for InterRailing and bike riding, talk about kids and how to change a diaper! And now also some parts about land registration and maps :)

I used to learn guitar, but I'm stuck at a basic level with kids songs... Twinkle twinkle little star...

What I Can Share with Hosts

We can go climbing indoors (maybe you can take us outdoors?), we can go bike riding (we have extra bikes) and hiking in the (extremely) local forests!
