CURRENT MISSION
Trying to end violence through education
ABOUT ME
I grew up in Ohio and still love the fact that Im from there, but glad that I got out. I had never really left the state until the end of high school and once I did I realized what I was missing out on. I have never stopped leaving since. I worked for the CSU football team during my undergrad and had the chance to travel to a new city a few times a month. That is when I realized I never wanted to stop. I studied abroad through Semester At Sea and have never been more humbled and inspired by so many cultures.
I like to label myself a feminist because I believe in the equality of ALL people. I've been involved in a number of groups for men on the topic of gender violence, racism, classism, and homophobia and have run groups trying to do the same. I find the more I try to teach people, the more that I am taught. I have never had a more rewarding experience.
I love a good conversation and truly believe that every single person you meet has something to teach you and if you dont believe that you are missing out on so much of what the world has to offer.
PHILOSOPHY
Traveling is the world's best educator - erase your ignorance.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I got started with couchsurfing the first day I ever left the country. I had no idea what it was but had met a guy on the internet who was an avid traveler and he said he had a place for me to stay. Turns out he was couchsurfing with another guy in the Bahamas and I just tagged along. As much as it was nice to stay for free on the floor, the best experience were the local people we got to meet and the places they took us off the beaten path. It was my first experience that I learned very quickly of the difference between being a traveler and a tourist.
I now tell everyone that I meet who is spontaneous and looking for a good time about couchsurfing. I have met some of the most amazing people on here and think this is one of the best programs in the world for cultural exchange.
Interests
Living in a village in Belize limits me from many things, but there is plenty of time to think and read.
I enjoy watching sports of most any kind. Football and Baseball are my favorites. I wrestled for 8 years through high school and miss it dearly.
Currently, I am an avid frisbee golf player. I consider it therapy to just be outside and throw a disc around and not think every once in a while.
I enjoy reading and wish I spent even more time doing it. The problem is I'm usually too social to sit by myself as much as I need to in order to read.
I love to be outside. From biking to climbing to hiking to tubing down the river, I am willing to do it all.
