Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

Get myself lost in as many cities as possible.

ABOUT ME

My name is Fraser, I am an Australian (with a handy British passport up my sleeve) student who loves traveling, the same as about half the people you meet at hostels these days (in my defence, I am not usually the one passed out in their own vomit). I like to think I am fairly nice, easy-going and good-humoured.

If you care about such things, I study/have studied History, Economics and German - why have one useless major when you can have three? After nearly 6 years of studying, absolutely no closer to knowing what I am going to do with myself, and don't really care as long as I can see more bits of the world.

Oh and since I think this would be something I would want to know if I were about to let someone into my house, I am fairly used to living with other people - I even know how to do things like wash dishes and be tidy.

PHILOSOPHY

Always wanted to get "May you live in interesting times" tattooed somewhere, until I found out it was never actually a Chinese curse and was more or less made up by a US official, which sort of takes the mystique away. Aside from that, I want to learn things, inside and outside of the classroom. I want to make the world a better place, or at least stop it getting worse. I believe that people have mostly good intentions towards each other. I am also far too cynical to write all that with a completely straight face.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have just moved back to Sydney for a few months and have no couch to share, although if you happen to be in Sydney I'm more than happy to show you around and have a drink or three. Hopefully I will get the opportunity to stay with some amazing people at some point!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a relative newcomer to couchsurfing and have only ever used it once (after having been bugged by friends to join for well over a year or so). Aside from some residual paranoia and the knowledge that if I were a serial killer I would totally use this website to attract victims, really looking forward to getting more involved.

Intereses

Travelling (no, really?), I read books (annoyingly quickly), I like offbeat contemporary authors like Terry Pratchett and Jasper Fforde as well as plenty of history related non-fiction (if you don't like random bits of historical trivia about where you live sprinkled into conversation, then you might want to not let me stay). Fairly interested in amateur theatre/comedy. I follow politics, although I tend to be fairly non-confrontational about it, especially overseas (favourite TV show of all time was the West Wing). Music-wise, I'll listen to anything once. Oh and I do crosswords compulsively.

Música, películas y libros

See interests I guess? Woefully underexposed to classic cinema though. Haven't even seen the Godfather.

Algo increíble que he hecho

Trekked in the Sacred Valley of the Incas (not the Inca Trail - I'm way too cool and alternative for that). Hang-gliding over Rio at sunset. Corrected the local showing me around Budapest about where we were on the map. Spent four weeks watching up-and-coming comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe. Hiked in Canyonlands National Park in Utah in the middle of winter, with white snow and red desert and perfect solitude. That's more than one. Oops.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

As mentioned, when it comes to historical trivia (well, history in general) you'll probably learn more than you wanted. I can speak pretty decent German and perfect English, if you want to learn either language I can help (really want to improve my Spanish as well).

I can also cook a few things, and always looking to learn how to cook a few more.
