About Me
Hi, I am Freddie and i am a traveler. My favorite country is Thailand and I want to share my experience with you. Also, i am PhD writer at http://quizlets.live/ with over 5 years experience. So this article is for people who are fans of Thailand but have not yet visited this fabulous country.
Are you thinking of traveling to Thailand, but do not know what to expect there? Then you should read on here. I try to answer all the questions you might have before your first trip to Thailand.
Thailand is one of the most diverse destinations in the world. The Southeast Asian Kingdom has something for everyone. This is a curse and a blessing at the same time, and then everyone seems to actually visit the country: In 2016, Thailand recorded 32 million tourist entries , which put the country in ninth place in the world rankings. Ascending trend.
The popularity of the country has advantages and disadvantages. Thailand is as easy to visit as few other countries . No matter how small a place is, you will always find a guesthouse and a delicious restaurant. Although buses and trains are a bit dated, the infrastructure is generally excellent.
But you will also notice that people in some regions are more interested in your money than they are in your person. Especially in the tourist centers, you will come across dubious characters who want to screw you worthless junk (beware of jewelry!) At overpriced prices. This can easily lead to your becoming increasingly closed to people.
When I first wanted to travel to Southeast Asia about 15 years ago, I had tremendous respect for the region: I imagined an area lurking in every corner. In the meantime, I see that more relaxed. Most traps can be easily handled with common sense and the necessary basic respect.
I want to answer all questions that I had before my first trip to Thailand. If you are still a little unclear, you can put your questions in a comment. I try to answer as soon as possible and if necessary to update the text.
How safe is Thailand?
In the 2016 Global Terrorism Index, Thailand ranks 15th, ahead of Niger. That is, Thailand is experiencing more terrorist violence than most of its neighbors. Nevertheless, you do not have to worry too much: the problems are limited to a few regions on the border with Malaysia. Tourist centers are not affected.
There is another problem there: many tourist centers are controlled by mafia-like family clans. In addition, you will most likely not notice. But sometimes this situation gets out of hand like on the island of Ko Tao, where at least seven tourists have been brutally murdered in the last three years.
Like most other parts of the world, Thailand's biggest danger is traffic. Thailand experiences 12 more fatal accidents per inhabitant than, say, Switzerland. If you are traveling by minibus, you can easily understand why that is.
Despite these problems, I always felt very safe in Thailand. The people met almost without exception very friendly and accommodating. As in many other places, I find it hard to believe that problems can arise anywhere.
The medical care in Thailand is generally good. Nevertheless, I recommend that you bring the most important medicines from home on a trip to Thailand - see my packing list . Since hygiene is generally a big issue in Thailand, you do not have to worry about stomach upset.
How much is a trip to Thailand?
Thailand is very cheap to travel. As a budget backpacker you get by with 25 euros per day easily. However, the temptations are great to spend a little more. Nowhere do you get so much luxury at such a low price. So save at home.
A simple double room you can find practically in the whole country from just 10 euros per night. Pay an extra five euros if you want air conditioning. Even luxury hotels are reasonably affordable. With a bit of luck, the well-known Lebua at State Tower (known from Hangover 2) will find a room for around 100 Euros.
For a meal in a simple but delicious street restaurant you will spend about 2 euros. Restaurants in the malls cost between 5 and 10 euros per person. But when it comes to food, too, if there's something more stylish, there's no limit to the top.
When is the best time to go to Thailand?
The best travel time is the months between November and February with relatively dry weather and pleasant temperatures. However, then most visitors are on the way.
Thailand goes in any season. This is because the climate varies greatly from region to region. The west coast (Krabi, Ao Nang, Phuket, Koh Phi Phi) should be better avoided from May to October because of the rainy season, while the precipitation at the eastern coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao) will start in November and only until January stop.
In addition, "rainy season" does not mean continuous rain. As a rule, it pours shortly after noon and / or in the evening for about an hour. During the rest of the time, the sky can brighten up and you can experience some sunny hours. Positive side effect: nature is much greener.
If you cannot tolerate heat, you should avoid the hottest season between early March to early June. On my last trip in April, I had to fight in the north with temperatures of almost 40 degrees. At the same time it was noticeably more pleasant on the coast.
