Music, Movies, and Books

I like a wide range of music, from acoustic to electronic and everything in between. I love African music, having grown up listening to artists such as fela kuti, tony Allen and orchestra baobab. Having worked at many music festivals in the UK I have had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of live music such as reggae, funk and folk to name a few. Also I am a drummer, so I have a particular passion for music with strong percussive elements. I am beginning to listen to and enjoy more Latin American music such as samba and cumbia.

I am passionate about reading, and enjoy both fiction and nonfiction (particularly anthropology based and travel writing). In terms of fiction I enjoy most genres, but especially like magic realism, by authors such as Jose Garcia marquez and Isabelle Allende. 100 years of solitude (Marquez) and house of spirits (Allende) are two of my favourite novels. Another worth a mention is Siddhartha, by Herman Hesse.

Movies wise I'm up for most things, but generally prefer older and more understated films rather than big Hollywood blockbusters. Recent films that I have enjoyed are moonlight and Victoria. Directors I like include the Cohen brothers, ken loach, Guillermo del toro and al modovar

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Helped people less fortunate than myself, and hopefully made people happy too!

Teach, Learn, Share

This is a huge part of why I am on couch surfing. To exchange knowledge and share experiences with people from all over the world. Being from the UK i have an intimate knowledge of english so can help anyone hoping to learn the english language. I am a passionate and experienced chef, and can share knowledge about different cuisines from all over the world, from european to middle eastern to indian and japanese. I have done a variety of building work so can help/teach with a range of construction. Currently I am learning Spanish so would be very grateful for help with that. More generally I want to learn about different cultures and local customs, as this is one of the main reasons for my travels.

What I Can Share with Hosts

An enthusiasm for life and new experiences. On a more practical level, I am happy to help with any work around the house and to contribute in any way that I can. I think it is a wonderful and beautiful thing to invite people into your home, and to help out in any way I can is the least I can do in return.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Wales
