Overview
About Me
Hi, I'm Frederic, but you can call me Fred or Fredo if it's easier for you. I'm a mechanical engineer who specialized in renewable energy. I just finished my studies and I am currently travelling in Europe. I work part-time remotely for a company based in Quebec, but I make my own schedule. In the next years, I plan to travel and start a tech company.
I play guitar, I paint, I'm a huge Bob Dylan fan, I'm a reader, I write short stories that I share with friends. I'm curious about just about anything: from "Agriculture" to "Zootherapy". I like improvising recipes, just trying something new with whatever is left in the fridge. I am very polite, I do fit the Canadian stereotype of saying 'sorry' for everything and anything! I like to meet new people and understand how they think. People usually describe me as a warm and calm, a lunatic philosopher with a deep voice and a strange sense of humour. My mother tongue is French but I speak English very well, and I can understand a bit of Spanish.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I can afford the hostels but I thought it would be nice to live with local people, in a more personal environment. I am looking for friends, to share moments and connect. Being more introvert than extrovert, I usually like to work a few hours everyday on my computer and have some alone time, but I sure would like to have some company, talk and have a walk in the neighbourhood. I like to cook, although I tend to forget recipes. I am very respectful and clean. In terms of food, I am a very easy customer. I have had dog food before!

Music, Movies, and Books
I have always enjoyed reading. As a kid, I read mostly fiction (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc) and as a grew older I turned to biographies (Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Edison, Napoleon) and essays (Noam Chomsky, Michael Lewis, Naomi Klein). I also read The History of the American People, a book that once belonged to my grand-father. I still do enjoy fiction from time to time (English Patient, The Man and the Sea).
In terms of music, I enjoy rock, oldies, techno, pop, jazz, and Bach from time to time . Country music can make me really happy too. I am a big movie fan, especially SciFi and Suspense. Among my favorites, I would think of The Matrix, Inception, "Thinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy" and 'Bad lieutenant'. I don't watch many TV shows, since they are so time consuming, but I really enjoyed Westworld.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hopped on a freight train and missed two airplanes.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you French, and tell you about Quebec and Canada. If you are interested in engineering and/or global warming, I can even give you a 90min course (still have the material from the courses I gave at my university) I play guitar so I can teach you (if you have a guitar around). I can help you with your computer (i.e. bugs or formatting) or introduce you to Linux. I can teach you programming (mostly Arduino and Matlab). I practised swimming and tennis for over ten years, so I can teach you that as well. I am willing to give you a hand with tasks around the house. I can buy some food and cook for the both of us once a day. And of course, if you are a girl, and the back pain is really too intense, I guess I could make an effort and give you a massage :P
