About Me

Oh man...I have always hated job interviews because they are pretty much one big about me section!

Keeping a long story short, my marriage with my corporate job hit a 7-year crisis and I asked for a sabbatical. The nice people who run the company said yes so I got a backpack, bought the cheapest ticket to Asia I could find (that landed me in Sri Lanka) and, for the first time, spent Christmas away from the family. Travelling & Workaway-ing since December 2015 and hoping to do it for about two years. Destination? Southeast Asia, Oceania and then back to Europe for the last months (I think...plans change almost everyday).
For me, travelling is all about getting to know a new place. I'm not interest just in the places, monuments, beaches, jungles, etc (although they are a very nice addition). What's really important to me is to understand the culture of where I am; so, this means I'm all about the local food, history (yep, you'll find me in museums everywhere I go), the markets, the habits, the people (hence the Workaway part). I would love it to be all about the language too but, for now, I'm finding asian languages a bit complicated to learn (although I really love to learn a few bits and pieces).

What else? I like going out and having a drink or two, even dancing - but only when the company is really nice (getting to know the local bars is not one of my goals from every place I go to ;-)). I'd much rather sit around and talk, preferably around a table with food (that's the Portuguese in me).

What can I say about me that will be relevant to hosts...I'm not known for snoring (at least no one ever complained), not a light sleeper (and even if I do wake up, it's really easy for me to get back to sleep), enjoy sleeping in but have not problem with waking up early (more time to enjoy the day) and/or get to sleep late. I also believe my mom taught me well how to be a clean and tidy person, especially when being someone's guest; if you find that's not the case, I'll personally give you her contact so that you can complain and then I'll spend the rest of my life hearing how I brought shame to her, etc, etc...moms!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Couchsurfing for me is more than just a place to crash and save some bucks (of course, that doesn't hurt!) but a way to get to know new people and have a close contact with the loca culture. I'm mostly looking to do couchsurfing in places where I won't be able to have a Workaway volunteering experience.

I know it's not nice to sign in, not be able to host but ask for a couch anyway but I promise that as soon as I'm based in Lisbon again (or anywhere else) I'll open my door and offer a very comfortable couch for fellow travellers. :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Not really amazing but I'm choosing to look at it that way: three countries visited since I started travelling, five hospitals visited, and counting... I can tell you more about it if you wanna know. ;-)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love eating and, most of all, cooking so if you'll let me I'll love to learn how to cook with you and even try to make some dishes from back home/favorites.
I can share my experiences, my culture and, basically, everyting I know (I may not give out a lot of information voluntarily but if you ask, I'm an open book).
Can also teach Portuguese to anyone who wishes to learn (it's really easy...not!)

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Morocco, Spain, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
