One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Stress and anxiety were with me at the beginning of my trip to Mexico. It was one week before my midterm exams, so I had to study really hard. At one point, I was on the beach, it was not too hot, not too windy, and I was doing homework the feet in the sand. At that point I had no choice but to say: “Fuck it, I’m in Mexico.” I ordered a Pina Colada, and enjoyed this wonderful afternoon on the beach.

In Sa Pa, in the North of Vietnam, I was sick. But like, really sick. I had been sick for almost 2 weeks. On this day, the group was going hiking, and I love to hike. The teachers who were with me wanted me to stay in the guesthouse, taking some rest. I had been doing that for too long. So I gathered my forces and went hiking. I wasn’t the fastest, and it was pretty challenging for me. But when I reached the top of the mountain, the satisfaction I had was incredible.

Finally, in Italy, I was at looking for a hostel in Rome. I had a city guide, but it was issued in 2009 (and we were in August 2014). I look for a hostel following the city guide, and I walked for 3 hours with my backpack and my luggage across the city. Every hostel was abandoned or closed on that day. After 10 closed hostels, I decided to finish my list and go to the 11th and last hostel on the list. It turns out that it was one of the best hostels of the city, so I left my luggage and my backpack in my room and when in the streets looking for a restaurant. I finally found one and as soon as I am seated I order a pizza and a glass of wine. I suddenly realize that I am right in front of the Colosseum and a guy just started playing violin in the street. It looked surreal.

I didn’t expect much when I started visiting Lao, mostly because I knew nothing about it. So, I decided to do some trekking with my friends (I highly recommend it). For our 1st night in the Lao jungle, we are in the middle of nowhere with our guide and we decided to lay down on a rock and just talk about stuff. At some point, I realize that I’m in Lao, thousands kilometres from my home, and I am enjoying the silence and the peace of the wild forest. At this very moment, I look up to the sky and there’s suddenly shooting stars. I just couldn’t believe it! The peace and the calm that I felt during this moment was incredible.
