About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Continually strive to be a skilled and articulate photographer, while living as a citizen of the world.

ABOUT ME

I value intelligence, I love a good laugh, I try to give good advice, I fall madly in love... especially with the world.

PHILOSOPHY

Be excellent to each other! --- Points if you know where that line is from and you include where in any messages you send to me! :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My goal is to participate in every way I can! Couchsurfing has been an absolutely wonderful experience for me so far and I am excited to share what ever resources I have at my disposal.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I hitch hiked to Alaska from the north east of the US, my friend and I had 3 or 4 people offer their places. What a wild variety of people... :)

Touring the UK, I've met a couple wonderful people. Some just "for coffee" and others who have welcomed me to stay with them. The experience has been overwhelmingly positive!

Interests

I snowboard, rock climb and daydream. I enjoy cooking, being a nerd and hearing good stories over a pint.

In 2009 I became a vegetarian after my father had serious heart surgery(He had to change his diet. So, to support him, I did as well) and I've had fun learning how to look at food in new ways.

Music, Movies, and Books

Salsa! I'm a salsa dancer (upper intermediate-ish).

Jazz, blues, electro, house, older hip-hop, rock, punk rock.... I have pretty broad interests. I'm not a big fan of Balinese Gamelan music, though. :P

I tend to enjoy satire and non-fiction the most. Tom Robbins is one of my favorite authors, David Sedaris is also incredible. Though, my current book is neither; Shantaram. It's really fantastic, so far.

Films that I love include; The Life Aquatic, No Country for Old Men, Death Proof, The Piano, pretty much anything by Woody Allen, or with Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp... and ridiculous movies that are terrible but pretty to watch, like Transformers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hop a train! I am continually humbled by nature... but train-hopping is the reason for the first time I was ever truly humbled by something made by man.

Simply riding a passenger train does not come close to the experience of riding inside a box car with an open door and nothing but air between you and the blur of the world as it whistles past. Every time the train slows down, the pure thunder of the cars catching up and the couplings slamming into the car ahead is deafening, and when the train picks up speed again, the sound is as if Zeus himself picked up the engine and cracked the train like a whip!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always happy to share what I know about anything I have experience with. These days most of my energy is largely focused on learning about art and photography, but sustainability, healthy cooking, fitness and outdoor enjoyment are things I'm always looking for more information on. Oh yeah, and salsa dancing. :)
