About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the hidden underbellies of the US through art, literature, and history!

ABOUT ME

I love travelling, but have never been financially able to really support my love. As a result, I've made it my life's mission to get around this snag. I travelled out of state for university and have worked in Russia as an EFL teacher.

If in 50 years you see a blue-haired lady at the Y or local uni, just wave, because that's me - the lifelong, professional student. I've come to learn that a home can be anywhere people are, and I want to make the entire world my home.

PHILOSOPHY

Peace, Love and LIBERTY

"When all of the beauty turns to pain
When all of the madness falls like rain
As long as we crash and we collide
We will be gorgeous, you and I."
Gorgeous by Idina Menzel

"Death was the father's road to awe."
The Fountain

"Every shadow no matter how deep is threatened by morning light."
The Fountain

"I know. I caught you; I held you."
The Fountain

"Mr. Feeny, if I'm really, really quiet will you stay?"
Eric Matthews, Boy Meets World

"Wait, for I’ll return, defying every death
And let those who do not wait say, that I was lucky.
They will never understand that in the midst of death,
You, with your waiting saved me.
Only you and I know how I survived.
It is because you waited as no one else did. "
Quoted lines by John McCarthy, former hostage
From the poem "Wait for Me" by Konstantin Simonov

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I bring an eager mind and open ears. I am always willing to share about my life (including my run-ins with babushkas and late-night elektrishka stories) and loves (books and the arts). I am also willing to give an English lesson or two or help tidy a place up in exchange for place to crash.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I'm a newbie, although I did meet a friend in Zelenograd who became a student/friend through couchsurfing.

Interests

As cliched as it is -
researching (usually history, politics, religion, literature) books, travel, people watching, walking to random places, trying new types of cheese, the ARTS.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fallen in love with a building: The Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Decided to move to Russia after one night of panicked Googling.

Followed a strange Babushka across train tracks, through a hole in the fence, and into her van.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I have a degree in History and I taught English. Then I served as a victim advocate at a domestic violence shelter. Now, I'm working with Americorps.
