About Me

An early adopter of the couchsurfing scene, I have been a member of this site since 2005.

Single white male, mid 40's, never married, never settled, restless of foot with an enquiring mind.

Devoted the best part of my 20's and 30's to the art of travel and the single-minded goal of visiting all 7 continents before my 40th birthday - achieved with 6 months left to that life milestone.

Formerly a music and events photographer and small business operator, I now work as security for venues in the arts, live music and theatre scene in Melbourne.

I strongly support community radio, and I have a real passion for independant lifestyles and counter-corporate institutions...

PHILOSOPHY

Quote 1: Work to live, don't live to work

Quote 2: Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans (john lennon)

Quote 3: When you're dead you can't take nothing but your soul (john lennon again)

Quote 4: The goal of life is not to arrive at the graveyard in a well preserved body, but instead to skid in sideways, totally worn out yelling "What a ride!" (unknown).

Visited upwards of 70 countries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

i've guested on numerous couches, and as of recently, finally, i host people!! - this so far has extended to Americans, Germans, Canadians, Swedish, Scottish, and French. All positive experiences.

When I can't host, I am happy when I am free to meet travellers for a meal/beer/coffee in town. 1 Ethiopian, 1 American, 1 Scot and 1 German have availed of this hospitality so far.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed with folks in the USA in Seattle, Olympia, Portland, Eugene, Bend, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Nara in Japan...and it's been alllll good!!

Interests

Travelling, local history, football (soccer), live music/gigs.

Hitch-hiking - read about my first trip here, at hitch-hikers bible/website "digihitch.com". http://www.digihitch.com/article759.html

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - anything that's not Hollywood (mostly - sometimes they surprise with a goodie!). Into The Wild my most recent fave at the cinema.

Music - mostly indie rock, music that tells a story. The Frames, The Eels, Low,...plus older stuff like Nirvana, Mudhoney, The Replacements. The Hold Steady rank #1 on stereo high rotation right now.

Aussie bands to look out for: Eddy Current Suppression Ring, The Gin Club, The Night Terrors, The Dacios.

books - varies - depending on my mood...just finished reading "Marching Powder" by Rusty Young, and "Sideways" by Patrick O'Neill....just to get me in the travelling mood again.
