Music, Movies, and Books
Music
I love most classical, jazz, indie, rock, blues, and modern folk.
Mozart is my favourite composer- especially his clarinet concerto, but I am biased concerning my favourite piece since this is the instrument I play, but it is beautiful!
I'm always going to gigs, especially since I have been living in London because it is such a hub for musicians on their tours- not really a city they can pass by! So I've seen the likes of Bear's Den, Paloma Faith, Billie Marten, Matthew and the Atlas, Newton Faulkner, Gabrielle Aplin, Jack Garratt, Eliza and the Bear, Charlie Cunningham, Roo Panes, Charlie Cunningham, Amber Run, the ELO... to give you a taste of the kinds of people I listen to :)
Films
I haven't seen a huge number of films, since I have tended to focus crazily on my studies throughout high school and university, but I adore Pedro Almodovar's films in Spanish, as I love how he battles common prejudices and misconceptions about marginalised identities.
Books
I love Laura Esquivel for her Latin American perspective on life and regional traditional customs, which she incorporates with beautiful worlds of magical realism.
Usually I am reading books on political economy, considering this is my area of interest with regards to development.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was a viking re-enactor for several years, and so have stayed in castles and forts around the country to demonstrate historically accurate cooking, fighting, crafts, gaming, and jewellery making techniques to the public by bringing history to life. The best was reenacting the battle of hastings (as a Saxon) with hundreds of other reenactors from around the world - with both foot soldiers and cavalry- in Battle Abbey, Kent, on the very field and anniversary it took place in 1066, and I survived, despite the harsh frost and mist!
