The top of a guitar is essential for it's tone. A guitar top is normally made of diiferent kinds of spruce or cedar. one needs good tonewood to make a good guitar: old, dry, stiff, light. Quality depends mostly on the grain: wether it is straight, close and well cut. be carefull with instrument makers. They can talk endlessly about such things.
