About Me

I'm a biologist, moved to Stillwater in 2019. One of the things I love about my job (and life in general) is the opportunity to travel, explore the world and see nature. I have an active and creative mind and I'm very curious about the world around me. It makes me very happy to encounter others who feel the same way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I travel a lot and am always interested in meeting new people who share common interests. My main purpose on here is to try to find people I have common interests and would potentially get along well with in the places I travel to. So I don't necessarily plan to couchsurf at every destination, but when there are people out there with common interests, then of course it would be great to meet. I think the idea of this site is fantastic.
I'm also open to hosting, especially since I'm still getting settled in to a new city and would enjoy meeting up with new and interesting people.

Interests

I'm passionate about nature, wildlife and science. I love getting outdoors, hiking, exploring, bird-watching, frog finding (I am beyond fanatical about frogs!) and just enjoying the beauty of nature. The intellectual side of science is very appealing to me as well and I enjoy taking on a challenging topic and coming up with a creative way to solve it.

My second biggest passion is probably music-I'm a huge live music fan, also a big record collector. I go to shows quite often (see genre interests below). I'm a bit of a historian and archivist when it comes to the underground scene from Louisville, Kentucky, the place where I grew up. I love the raw power of a live show but I also enjoy the historical and cultural aspects of music-a rare chance to watch the evolution of art, and participate directly.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I grew up as a punk rocker, graduated into hardcore around college, and then as I became a snobby grad student (and began researching my city's musical history) I turned towards the more challenging sounds of post-hardcore, post-rock, etc. I'm mellowing a bit now and admitting some emo, indie and even an occasional dark folk song in there. I love live music and going to shows.

I don't really keep up with movies that much. Not that I don't like them, but I need somebody around encouraging me to go or I'll just kind of forget they exist.

I love reading & books, even though half the time I'm stuck just reading scientific papers. For fun reading, I like classics, hippie stuff (HS Thompson, Robbins, Pynchon), weirdo occult (but very picky with this, most of it is crap): Illuminatus Trilogy & Lovecraft, popular science and natural history (Dawkins, Gould, Wilson, Carson, etc.).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably my travel highlight is 3.5 weeks in Tanzania. Unbelievable scenery and wildlife.

Teach, Learn, Share

Fellow nature lovers are most welcome. I'm no good with plants but I can tell you a whole lot about animals, their ecology and behavior.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've lived in a lot of good places, will continue to do so, and will gladly reciprocate. I'm quiet, respectful and easy-going. Depending on our interests and my reason for traveling, I'm not necessarily looking for somebody that will spend their entire time with me while I'm there, but I'm also almost always up for an adventure!
