About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To try and get to know this planet

ABOUT ME

I never planned on being a traveller. I didn't think it was possible. I thought that only the very rich could travel for long periods of time. So I resigned myself to a future of mostly two week camping holidays within BC and one or two larger trips abroad. But then I learned about hostels, which led me to gap years, which led me to couchsurfing, hospitality exchange, WOOFING and the like. Now, I cannot imagine myself not travelling. It is my passion and I feel most alive when I travel.

I have travelled around BC and the pacific northwest a fair amount, as one might expect having been born and raised in Vancouver. But it wasn't enough, and I needed more. So I took time off in the middle of my studies to travel around Europe with two friends. It was fantastic and a lot of fun.

After that I did a semester in Prague, CZ where I met lots of nice people and fell in love with the city.

My life seemed to be chugging along nicely, with a vague plan of teaching English in Asia on the horizon, but then my life took an unexpected twist.

In February 2012 I suffered my fourth or fifth concussion in a little more than a year. I suffered, and continue to deal with post-concussion symptoms. It has been very difficult. So if I ever seem to pause often or be especially quiet, it probably has to due with my brain damage, that and I was pretty shy beforehand.

PHILOSOPHY

Regret what you do, not what you don't.

Music, Movies, and Books

There are so many. Some off the top of my head are

Books:
Yes Man, The Last Lecture, Redshirts, Animal Farm, 1984, and of course almost any book about travel.

Movies:
The Departed, The Godfather, The Spanish Apartment, Searching for Sugar Man, almost all of the 30/30 series.

I enjoy almost all types of music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Looking back on from a ferry travelling from Vancouver to Nanaimo, I watched the sun rise. Everything was dark and cloudy but a sun spot was shining on the city, breathtaking.

Also taking the tram into the centre of Prague. That city is absolutely beautiful. Especially at the golden hour.

Riding an ATV in Morocco.

Snowboarding Harmony Ridge on Whistler on a powder day.

First beer at Oktoberfest. It was so delicious, made even more so by the fact it took forever to find a table and get served. But once I finally was able to procure one, it was fantastic.
