ABOUT ME

I'm a wandering lad in search of adventure. I'm currently working on a graduate degree in Writing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They let me use welding torches and laser cutters, the fools! I write a lot, but I don't consider myself deserving of the vaunted designation of "writer" just yet. I need more experiences and more practice before I can take up that mantle. Not only that, but I want to try and pick up as many wildly different skills as I can in the meantime. Just being a writer seems like it'd get boring after a while. I'm up for an outing, a hike, or a midnight mission at a moment's notice. A lot of my friends consider me a little bit crazy. I rap about mythology, I write on my walls (I tape butcher paper over them, but still), and one time I snuck onto the roof of my post office and got chased by a helicopter. I'm not dangerously crazy, though. I won't write on YOUR walls, I won't lead any helicopters to YOUR house, and I always wash my own dishes. As far as staying with me is concerned, I hope you like eating large pots of food because I cook those all the time and I usually need help eating them.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that anything I dislike just denies me a potentially enjoyable experience, so I try my damndest to enjoy everything. I painstakingly trained myself to like chocolate, for example.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well, I don't have a couch to offer, and am really coming at this from the "surfing" angle, but I'm willing and eager to do anything I can to help. I can mend clothes, wash dishes, move heavy objects, cook a mean pot of chili, really anything that needs to be done. I feel that a community like this can only work if the people who are surfing try to be as helpful as the people who are letting them stay.

Plus, if you provide me with some fabric scraps and enough time, I can make you clothes. I'm still learning, but I'm pretty good.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Surfed for a week and a half with a wonderful couple in Essen, Germany. I keep running into people who let me stay at their house, only to find out after the fact that they have couchsurfing accounts.

Rap, dreams, comic books - excuse me GRAPHIC NOVELS, tinkering, hang-gliding (I've never done it but I am VERY interested), climbing, parkour, judo, writing pretty much anything, sign language, other languages, reading pretty much anything, board games, debate, yoga, sewing, hilarity, people, juggling, percussion, high-fives, math and science of all sorts (despite knowing VERY little), spontaneity, improvisation, final wisdom, ultimate knowledge.

Traveled from Spain to Los Angeles to deliver a father's greetings to his estranged son.

Lehren, lernen, teilen

I can teach you how to sew, I was an assistant Judo instructor for a year, and I've been told I'm good at writing. I can also teach you American Sign Language, but I don't know how useful that would be.

As for things I'd like to learn ... If you have any technical knowledge whatsoever, I'm all ears. Besides a bit of basic Java, I don't know much about creating new technology, but I REALLY want to, and I'm a pretty fast learner. Also, any language you know, I would like to know as well. One can never know too many languages. Also, RECIPES! I have discovered the joy of cooking, but I can only cook a couple of things.
