About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Dance like no one's watching. Inspire positive change. LAUGH until I wet myself. Live each day like it's my last.

ABOUT ME

I love rice.

I seriously can't live my life without a bowl of rice everyday. It's a staple food. There's just so much one can do with rice. Make it into sticky rice, rice cakes, plain white rice, rice with beans, rice with vegetables, rice and chicken, rice with cooked beef... I love rice so much that I go beyond just have a rice cooker. I have a rice DISPENSER which dispenses the appropiate quanity of rice for me.

Serious answer:
I consider myself very chills, outgoing, quirky kind of person. I'm willing to try, eat, do, and say anything once! I try not to take life too seriously because I find that living with humour tends to make living a lot more interesting and a lot more fun. I think you can find humour in absolutely every situation.
My life goal is simply to inspire positive change through positive self expression. I believe that each individual possesses a special talent that is representative of ONLY them. And I believe that peopple use their unique gift to contribute to the positive growth of the people around them.

PHILOSOPHY

If you want to know why I live my life, give me a shout! We'll discuss it over homemade chocolate chip cookies (I'll bake them) and milk (provided by local farm cow). I don't like to share my life philosophies without someone to offer feedback.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My friend Amy introduced me to couch surfing. One day she said to me, "Diana, try out this thing called couch surfing. I hear it's legit"... and I said, "... OK!!!". Good story I know. How I participate in the CS network is being a traveller. It'll be my first time using this project so I'm excited to slump on people's couches and share experiences and life ideas with eachother.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This will be my FIRST time experiencing Couch Surfing!

Interests

DANCE - is my positive outlet, the way I express myself. Although I am extremely open to learning any forms of dance, I've currently been focusing on the elements of popping, bboying and house. Every week a crew of my friends, who we dubbed the popping "Fam", jam together for practice. In our sessions we try to inspire eachother, learn, teach and share with no judgement. Dance is what bonds us, and we're there to have a great time. Although my weak asian body is taking a brutal beating trying to build endurance to do these forms of dance... the pain is worth it!
UNITY CHARITY - founded by my close friend Michael Prosserman aka bboy Piecez, we inspire to create positive change through positive artisitic self-expression. It's my sanity, my salvation, and it pushes me to better myself. Check it out www.unitycharity.com
Eating to the levels of morbid obesity - pretty self explanatory.
Talking - talking is awesome.
Reading - I'm an avid reader. I read anything from those cheesey romance novels with Fabio on the cover to Jane Austen, James Joyce, Stephen King, and Homer. I am a serious history nerd.
Dance Jams - I boarderline creepy watch people's dance moves so I can attempt to mimick them on my own later. I'm up for any type of dance jam that offers a positive enviornment with people who just love to dance.
Theatre - After seeing The Lion King, I wanted to BE in the Lion King, it scared my parents
Asian Jokes - gotta be able to hear cracks about your own race.
Tea - mmmmmmmmmmmmm....teeeeaaaaaaaa.
Knitting - I knit one mean blanket.
Coffee shops - I think offer one of the best places for the most interessting kinds of conversations.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not Twilight...

Movies: (this list will establish me as an official nerd) Lord of the Rings... obviously extended version only, Pride and Prejudice, Shawshank Redemption, American History X, Hook, Breakfast at Tiffanys
Music: I'm what you call an eclectic music listener. My ipod skims from Mozart to Korean Pop (gotta be down with my roots) to James Brown to Wu Tang Clan. However, when it comes to music, I just sway with my mood. Lately, I've been feeling the positive HipHop so been listening to a lot of Musiq Soulchild, Blackstar, J Dilla, Junior Gong, Bahamadia, Lupe Fiasco and Funkadelic.
Books: I am a freakish reader!!! If I don't read a book before I go to bed I go through withdrawal; much like a drug addict, but probably not as intense. Favourite book, SHOGUN by James Clavell. If you have not seen this mammoth you need to go read it now! GO! Now!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year, I spoke about my experiences with violence at my old highschool for UNITY's Hip Hop Away from Violence. I spoke in front of 200 highschool students and my old teachers. It was one of the hardest yet rewarding experiences I've ever been through. In that speech, I re-lived some of the most emotionally painful moments of my life and shared it with those kids to remind them that it IS possible to create positive changes in their life. I am proof of that.

This event UNITY Charity throws called THE KICK OFF. It's our final scholarship competition for all the students who perform in our highschool outreach program. In May 2008, we held our first KICK OFF event and watching all the talented students have the courage to display their skills and unite together was the best euphoria I've ever felt. And I didn't have to climb Mount Everest to feel this.
