I quit my dream editorial job at a magazine because it ended up making me miserable. I now landscape for a living and I couldn't be happier. How do you like playing in the dirt?

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am looking to surf more often. I love the camaraderie among travelers. Also, I live in Hudson, NY - though I'm not sure how often I can host, I can definitely be a friendly face to have coffee with!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Twice as a surfer - stayed two nights with a fellow in Maine, and it went very well. He drove my then-boyfriend and I to the top of the tallest mountain to watch the sunrise, and gave us tips on where to go.

The other time was two nights as well in Calgary, Alberta on the way to Banff National Park. Her name was Aly and we had the best time hitting the town! She wrote a review on my co-traveler's account (her name is Deborah Kraft, perhaps you can find her if you want to see Aly's review of us!).

I worked in a hostel in Sri Lanka for a few months the summer after my mom passed away, after applying to the job on a whim. I found out there that traveling the world isn't too hard after all. There are ways to save money, and even if you travel alone, you don't have to be lonely.
