About Me

I'm a physicist, cellist, and teacher who's in Europe to learn how people here like to make the most out of life, especially when they don't have much money to spare. After three months in Berlin, I'm heading to Barcelona and Paris and then back to the United States to eke out my fortune.

I know a lot of random shit, so some people find me pretty interesting to talk to.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

There's nothing in the world quite as interesting as a person, a brave, scared, sharp, confused, loving, reclusive, pluralistic, whole person. I love getting to know people and learning how they've chosen to grapple with life and love in modern society. I travel to meet the people of the past and present.

Interests

My favorite moments while traveling have involved good cheap food, magnificent buildings, sublime music, uncluttered sunsets, scenic runs, uncontingent people, and for some reason model trains. Beer is good too.

Music, Movies, and Books

I know mostly classical music, of which: Brahms, Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff, Mahler. I like other music too; I'm just not familiar with it, except: Plant Life by Owl City, Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel, and assorted others.

Inside Out would be the best movie of all time, except that it's so amazing that it's really not a movie but actually its own genre. My two favorite movies are the Lego movie and Inception.

Terry Pratchett. David Foster Wallace. John Green. Greg Egan. Still looking for good books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I wrote a symphonic composition that was performed. Then I did it again.
