About Me

I'm Gabriel, I come from Montréal (Québec, Canada) so my first language is french! I've learn English at primary school and I'm also half Guatemalian because my father comes from Guatemala. This is why I do speak Spanish and English as well. I'm currently finishing my degree in communication at the University of Montréal.

I think I'm a flexible person, I do like kind of everything and especially try new things!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I do think it's a great way to be able to travel, to enjoy time with local people and to share some of our own culture and experiences whatever they are. It can also give the opportunity to someone who wants to travel but doesn't have a lot of money to be able to do it without spending so much on hostels. And there's nothing more useful than tips coming from someone who lives in the city you're visiting.

Interests

I do like a bunch of things but what you might want to know about me is that I love music (either listening to it or playing it. I play guitar, drum and a bit of piano). I simply love everything about craft beers and home brewing. I also really enjoy any other good alcohol (wine, whisky, rum) and sports (especially American football).

I also love to go in the nature, hiking and trekking, climbing mountains, do some longboard and snowboard. I also do some photography and video making.

Music, Movies, and Books

In terms of music, I started being a heavy metal fan and I have to say my favorite band is Iron Maiden. I've seen them four times so far and I'm seing them for the fifth time during their Book Of Souls Tour! Beside Maiden, I love a lot of bands in different kind of music style. Such as Styx, Scorpions, Metallica, Van Halen, The Beatles, Of Mice & Men, A Day To Remember, Avenged Sevenfold, Pierce The Veil, Bring Me The Horizon, Of Monsters And Men, Mumford & Sons, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Coldplay, City And Colour, Half Moon Run. The list can go on and on.

I also love cinema and a lot of Ken Loach's films. My favourite one is Sweet Sixteen. I also like movies from Tarantino, Coen brothers, Forman, Kar-wai, Zhangke, Kieslowski, Dolan, Zemeckis, Peter Jackson, George Lucas.

I don't read a lot but I'm trying to improve that. But my favorite books would be L'Écume des Jours from Boris Vian, Aliss and 5150 Rues des Ormes from Patrick Sénécal and The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared from Jonas Jonasson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a three months trip in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam) with my friend. We did five weeks of volunteering in Chiang Rai, Thailand, and we travelled for seven weeks across the other countries after. It was simply great to experience this incredible culture. It was my first time travelling that far for that amount of time and I learned a lot about travelling and travellers. It was simply great!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I think I can share a lot from my experiences. Some French speaking from Québec, craft beer tasting and advices, music taste and even some guitar or drum lessons. I simply like to talk about everything and to share what we're passionate about.
