About Me

I am a freelance translator (meaning I have flexible schedules) living in Mexico City (awesome city!). I am very open to new interests but I'm very picky with people. If I don't like someone I have a very difficult time hiding it and I'm very straightforward, so that may be challenging for some. However, when I click with someone I try my best to make that person happy or comfortable, especially in a foreign country.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to meet new people while travelling because I've come to realize that what actually makes a travel awesome is the time you spend with incredible people in a new place. It's the experiences and what you share and all that crap that it's actually true. I mean, we are social beings so... I suppose it makes sense that you are happier and have much more fun if you share an experience with someone.

Interests

I love cooking and eating (although not specifically the food that I cooked because I feel like there are no surprises there). Mostly I love to know new restaurants to eat delicious food, especially desserts!

I love animals in general; I think I've had dogs, cats, turtles, rabbits, budgerigars, mouse and hamsters. Currently I don't have a dog :( but that just means that pets are welcome.

I love going to the movies or to the theater or just to a good show. Sometimes I just like going out, which doesn't mean that I can stay in my house hibernating occasionally (I actually have like a little theater movie in my house for such occasions).

What I like the most is travelling (duh, that's why I'm here, right?).

That's Gabriela in a nutshell.

Music, Movies, and Books

It all depends on mood and time of the year. At this precise moment, I'm very into Last Shadow Puppets, Duffy, Haim, Years & Years and Stromae. Sometimes I listen to some jazz, or blues, sometimes some R&B and, on very weird days, to a lot of pop music.

Since I'm trying to learn French I'm focusing mainly on French movies, but I have to mention I had to very serious movie fixations. The first one was my Bollywood obsession and the second one was my Korean obsession, specifically Kim Ki Duk.
I'm open to almost anything regarding movies, except pretentious art movies with a supposedly deep meaning shit.

Book also depends on my mood. I once had a period when I would only read poetry. I'm currently in my action/Japanese-history moment, So I'm reading a Japanese historical novel along with The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge by Rainer Maria Rilke (because I'm in a book club and that's the one they picked).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hate this kind of questions but it makes go one of two ways: totally lie or exaggerate the one event that I can think of in the moment. In any case, it makes me realize that I haven't done anything that I can consider amazing, or maybe I don't remember. And then it even makes me go all philosophical and think: well, living in itself is not an amazing thing to do? Hey, I survived yet another day, let's all celebrate! (Now I'm just babbling) So, no news over here. Back to you Kelly.

Teach, Learn, Share

It would be awesome to practice with my guests. Obviously they could practice Spanish with me. I have to admit I'm not the best teacher, but I can spot a grammatical mistake and explain why that's a mistake in a more or less rational way. Hope that helps.

I would love to walk anyone around Mexico City because I love it and I don't mind at all seeing familiar places all over again.
