About Me

Hi everyone! I'm Gabriele and I live in Turin, Italy.
I live on my own since when i was 19, spending two years in a community house with 5 other people. During this experience I worked for LIBERA (an association that deals with raising awareness and combating the mafia phenomenon) and ACMOS (another association that aims to promote and support democratic inclusion through education projects, spreading culture of active citizenship, aimed particularly at young people).
In that period I was studying law at the University of Turin, but i left during the third year to enroll at the Conservatory of Music, where now i study jazz saxophone, which I've been playing since when i was 17 .
I really like the kind of communitarian life, living with other people, sharing things and experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The thing I like most about traveling is meeting new people in different parts of the world. I try to make community life my lifestyle and I think couchsurfing is the best way to apply it even when traveling

Interests

As I said i've been studying law and politic, particularly as regards migration (I also did volunteering with migrants and political refugees). I'm interested above all about human rights activism in general.
Music is a passion that grew slowly inside me. I start playing an instrument a 17 (a bit "later" than usual) and i never studied music before, so the decision to enroll at the Conservatory came later too. Totally worth it. I can't imagine my life without playing the saxophone, it is a very intense experience that allows me to discover every day something about me, my way of being, and of the ways in which I can express my inner self.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm a huge fan of jazz music, which i love in every form. My favourite musician above all is John Coltrane, with is "classic" quartet with Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner and Jimmy Garrison, but i'm also a huge fan of Eric Dolphy, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker, Jackie McLean, , Art Blakey, Max roach, Art Tatum and Charles Mingus (The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady, what an album!).
Lots of favourite movies...i'm a Tarantino's fan but i really like some italian movies too, love monicelli's "Amici Miei" and fellini's "8 e 1/2".
I really like Hermann Hesse's books, most of all "Der Steppenwolf", I'm also a fan of Julio Cortàzar. My favourite book of all is "Herbak-Cecio" by Isha Schwaller de Lubicz.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived for two years in a self-managed community house with 5 other people. The house was very big because it was a part of an old factory in Turin, which was put back in place by the association of which I was part, ACMOS.
During this period we hosted in our home different people with difficult lives: political refugees, former drug addicts and women victims of violence. Furthermore we used to host small groups of high school kids for a week or two, discussing with them about the communitarian lifestyle, doing activities about education for active citizenship every evening all together.
These two years have not been easy for many reasons and they brought me to rethink many things in my life, but I'm not sorry I did, indeed, I see it as a huge enrichment and an experience that sparked so many beautiful things in my life.
I was lucky to be able to experience it

Teach, Learn, Share

I am a musician so i'd be glad to share musical skills with other people, or even just take some lessons of some musical instrument that I can't play. If someone may concern, i'd be happy to give some music lessons in exchange for the hospitality.

What I Can Share with Hosts

the things I can share are my passions, I hope that those who'll host me or will be hosted by me wants to share theirs with me
