"Drink life to the lees"

ABOUT ME

I like to think of myself as an eclectic and poly-faced weirdo. I'm a rational thinker (I've studied mathematics in Milan) and I like to have things sorted out in some way; but on the other hand I've played the piano since I was eight years old and continue now playing the keyboards, I therefore love to play and listen to music. I also kind of play the guitar and I picked up the harmonica a few months ago. I enjoy reading, watching movies, riding a bicycle, going to places and cooking (I eat vegan).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've learned that to really know a place, you must try to look at it from the eyes of a local and try to walk in their shoes. I've just recently started living in my own place so I've only had two experiences hosting through Couchsurfing and it was extremely fun and enjoyable! Also seeing your own place from the eyes of someone who's seeing it for the first time is like you are yourself seeing it for the first time. There's something beautiful about that!

Interests

One big interest of mine is music: I love playing it, listening to it, do whatever I can with it. I've played live many times and record my own music in my spare time.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite band of all times is definitely Pink Floyd. Most of the music I listen to is progressive and psychedelic rock from the 60's and 70's: Genesis, The Beatles, The Doors, Camel, Led Zeppelin, some King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator. I enjoy a little folk music on the side, like the amazing Nick Drake, some Simon and Garfunkel. I also appreciate many bands from the 80's and 90's like R.E.M. and Radiohead. Recently I've come to appreciate some jazz and blues masters from the earlier days, and, in some contrast, the classic punk scene of the end of the 70', like Television, or smooth hip-hop from A Tribe Called Quest (introduced to me by a wonderful Couchsurfer!). I also love a good movie soundtrack. As for the most recent artists in town, I like Tame Impala, MGMT, Foxygen, St Vincent, Mumford and Sons and many others. Despite being italian, I don't really appreciate italian music, but there is one singer-songwriter I utterly love: Francesco De Gregori.
As for the books I like to read, I like books that deal with nature, science, philosophy, traveling and novels, plays and poetry exploring the human condition: especially the English classics from the late 19th century, early 20th century, and the great American novels. I can definitely recommend a book or two!
Some of my favorite movies are: Dead Poets Society, The Legend of Nineteen Hundred, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (also love the actual play of course).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably the most important chapter in my life has been my experience as an exchange student in the U.S. during my fourth year of high school: it has changed the way I look at things, widened my sight, revolutionized my perception of how one person can fit in this world in so many different ways. And that is what I think traveling really does to you.
