About Me

My name is Gabriella 🙂. I’m a curious, fun, and thoughtful woman from Melbourne. I’m a self-employed physiotherapist/business manager. I love listening to music (reggae, rock, indie trance etc) and going to music festivals. I’m also into camping, the beach and doing outdoorsy stuff. I love playing sport: particularly netball, tennis, cycling, swimming, running and triathlon. Other things I’m into: arts and crafts, making pop up cards, birthdays, circus/magic, travelling, meeting people from different walks of life, improving my French...

And my name is Eliza :) I don't have my own profile but I'm travelling with Gabriella this trip. I'm a high school maths teacher (but I like to think I'm not totally boring) and I'm studying philosophy/literature part time. I met Gabriella playing netball, and I also play Australian football and tennis. I play piano not very well but for fun, and Chopin is my favourite composer. I haven't been travelling since before covid so I have an absurd level of excitement to see new things and meet new people again.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet new people and get a more genuine feel for the areas I visit and their people and culture. Because sharing is fun and makes sense! I am yet to host as I have only discovered couch surfing whilst travelling, but look forward to hosting when I’m in a position to do so!

Music, Movies, and Books

Gabriella: Radiohead, Jungle, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Arcade Fire, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Chopin, Yeah yeah yeahs, Prodigy, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Groundnation, Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill
Movies: Incendies, Stranger than Fiction, Run Lola run, Shawshank Redemption, Lion King, Cool Runnings
Books: don’t read nearly as much as I’d like to unfortunately. The Magic of Reality by Dawkins in picture book format is pretty up my alley.

Eliza: Nearly all my favourite authors are Australian; Helen Garner, Amy Witting, Tim Winton, Peter Goldsworthy. I am also having a big modernist craze at the moment: T.S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Gertrude Stein etc. I love finding new titles/authors to add to my reading list too!
Music: I like sad girl music but also disco/pop music. Angel Olsen, Taylor Swift, Mitski, Britney, Marina, Miley etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Helicopter over Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe 🤩 🚁
