About Me
I've now reached the ripe old age of 27 and I still have that unshakeable feeling that I need to see more of our amazing world before I settle down. I've done little snippets here and there (interrailing around europe, a hitchhike to Morocco and solo backpacking around Aus and NZ), but I have some adventures in the pipeline that will hopefully go a little bit further towards quenching my travel thirst!
Nearly 5 years ago, I was lucky enough to meet a man who shares the exact same outlook on life and travel as I do.... We have a blog where you can have more of a gander if you fancy it... (it's been a little neglected though unfortunately but we hope to get back on it over our coming travels) - www.theglobewanderers.com
A year ago James proposed to me in beautiful Paris and we're now on a 2.5 month European road trip together before returning to the UK to get married in the Cotswolds at the end of September. (Eeeeeek!).... and then we plan to fly to South Africa after Christmas and make our way East after that. Soooo much excitement ahead. :) James has never Couchsurfed before and I'm SO excited to show him how incredible a community it is, as well as jump back into it myself - it's been too long!! If you want to have a little nose at his profile, he's set one up over at https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/james-burnham-1 :)
Life is all about experience. I believe that if you are not experiencing, you're not living. There is so much beauty out there, both embodied in people and radiating through expansive landscapes and i want to see/feel as much of it as possible. In order to experience as much as possible you have to push yourself, push beyond your perceived comfort barrier and take a bit of a risk. Whether that risk be leaving your home for months on end without a structured plan or throwing yourself out of a plane with nothing but a bit of nylon between you and earth... do it, take the leap... you never know it could be the most clarifying, enriching thing you've ever done.
In short: Be afraid. Do it anyway.... and we hope to meet some of you brilliant people in the process :).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I discovered the incredible world of Couchsurfing back in 2010 when i took off on my own to travel around New Zealand and Australia. To this day, my Couchsurfing experiences are some of the fondest memories I have of my travels. There are so many incredibly kind and interesting people out there and Couchsurfing is just the most perfect, ingenious way to bring them together.
I first started couchsurfing down the East Coast of Australia - and what an amazing few first experiences i had! My time spent in Melbourne was fabulous! Through couchsurfing events and people kind enough to share their home with me, i built a whole new friendship network in under a week. This is what couchsurfing is all about. Standing at a tram stop, with 12 other people you didnt know from Adam but an hour or 2 before, playing some crazy universal game called 'samurai'.
It's those experiences that remind you how amazing and diverse our world is.
Since that trip I've been based in England working and sadly haven't yet had a place of my own where we can host surfers ourselves. We're absolutely bursting with excitement about the travels ahead, but are also so excited about when we have a home of our own that we can share with surfers. What better way to prolong the travelling experience once settled?!
Interests
I'm a (self-taught!) designer and I love it. I've spent the last 4 years working for an incredible charity called the Willow Foundation back in the UK.... but now that travels are calling us, i've taken a bit of a leap into the freelance design world! I love singing, dancing and acting. I play the occasional gig (although i suffer a little from stage fright)... I go swimming as often as I can, and really enjoy yoga. I'm really interested in photography and have my camera with me on my travels in the hope of both developing my skills and making a life long record of the incredible experiences i'm sure will come our way.

Music, Movies, and Books
Favorite movie would definitely have to be The Shawshank Redemption, nothing can beat it. (Other than The Little Mermaid perhaps.... ;)
Music wise, i'm a bit odd... or 'eclectic' if you will. I love a range of different music... from Passenger to Gregory Alan Isakov, Coheed and Cambria to Joshua Radin, Incubus to Tori Amos, Michael Buble to Michael Jackson, Ingrid Michaelson to Pink Floyd, Fat Freddies Drop to Newton Faulkner, Tegan and Sara to Celine Dion (should probably have kept that one quiet).
I also have a bit of a shameless love of musicals; Les Miserables in particular. I've been bought up surrounded by the music and i guess it's become somewhat of a comfort blanket for me. It will most definitely be on my travel tracklist!! (Luckily James shares my love of musicals... so we will be trying not to burst a lung as we sing along at the top of our lungs on the road trip!!!)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing thing I think i have done in my lifetime is the hitchhike from Leeds UK to Morocco. I have never felt so free (and probably nervous) as I did when my housemate dropped my friend and I at an M1 service station just outside Leeds.... and drove away. That feeling of putting yourself in the hands of a strangers' kindness is sooo enlightening. I met some beautiful people and saw places that i'd never have seen if it was planned.
All in all, anyone would be worried about the potential dangers of hitchhiking, but all I came away with from the reality of it, was a realisation of the overwhelming hospitality of people.
Once in Morocco... we made our way down to Merzouga (at the edge of the Sahara desert)... my friend and I, plus two other travellers we met, embarked on a 3 hour camel trek into the middle of the desert, stayed the night under the stars (and in berber tents), ate traditional tagine, sat around a fire. It was absolutely stunning.
Teach, Learn, Share
This is an amazing concept which i think really gets to the bottom of what travelling and life in general should be about. As far as knowledge, my degree was very focused around philosophical theorists so i could happily discuss that, as mentioned before, i enjoy photography and would love to share any knowledge that someone may want to gain. I love to sing, but suffer with the fact that I can't play guitar to save my life (or any other potential accompaniment). Therefore, meeting someone who could play would be amazing... we could either have some sing songs together or maybe you could take on the near impossible task of teaching me!
As i've said before, no two peoples life experience would be the same, you can learn something from anyone you meet if you are willing to be open to it.
