About Me

I was born in Haifa, Israel and lived there until the age of 13 when my family immigrated to Australia, First living in Sydney and now Melbourne. Both my Parents were born in Ukraine (former USSR) hence Russian was always the main language at home.

After finishing high school and before starting university I went on a 2 month trip in South East Asia that introduced me to backpacking and made me aware of the world out there.
Ever since I took every opportunity I had to travel and explore (nationally and internationally).

I am friendly and a very easy going person, I always try to keep a positive attitude even in bad situations. I like to enjoy the moment with the people around me, no matter where we are or what we are doing and stay optimistic about the future.

In March 2015 I will start an 10 month trip from LA all the way to the south of Chile and Argentina traveling through most countries in Central and South America.

I really like hiking and all sorts of outdoor sports and I try to keep exercising while traveling to stay fit. I also practice a martial art (Kyokushin) so I can appreciate a really hard workout.

Other than that, I am always open to new things and I like new experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I really like the idea of meeting people from all over the world and getting to know them and understand their lifestyle and culture.
When I settle in after my trip I will definitely start hosting!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies are Fight Club, Apocalypse now, The Prestige, shutter Island, The Matrix, Pulp Fiction and many more.

As with books, I really like Hemingway and read many of his books especially liking For Whom the Bell Tolls. George Orwell and the book 1984, John Grisham and others. I like to read anything although I don't get to read a lot.

With music I am not too picky I like older rock and jazz but I also enjoy modern things and psychedelic at times.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In January 2014 I rented a motorbike in a small place in northern Myanmar (Hsipow) and after missing the waterfall I was looking for and getting lost decided to drive for around 3 hours up into the mountains on very narrow and steep dirt roads without a map. Eventually ended up arriving at some small village where the children where scared by my appearance (haven't seen tourists before) and after taking lots of photos, trying to communicate with the locals, being fed by the local teacher while about ten people stand around me and watch, the teachers refusing to accept any payment and playing with the brave little kids. I had to drive back, often guessing which direction to go to at intersections and turning around a few times but eventually getting back to my guest house just before sunset.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English, Hebrew and conversational Russian (my reading and writing skills in Russian are very bad). Also Math (currently doing a Math major) and basic programming/computing. I can also teach martial art and especially some very useful self defense.

In regard to learning, I am always happy to learn new things, really anything so the stranger or weirder it is, the better.

I am a very sharing person so I am happy to share any photography tips or things in my possession.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will share whatever I have, whether it is a bottle of some spirit if I am carrying one around or the book I am reading. I love coffee so I will happily make that for breakfast, I can also cook a meal but other than that, I promise that I will try to do whatever I can to show my appreciation.
