À propos de moi

My name is Galen and I am originally a California native growing up in Santa Cruz, (a coastal town about an hour south from San Fransisco). Meeting people and creating experiences that can be shared through story telling has been a passion of mine since I can remember. In my free time I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, hanging out with friends, finding new music and looking at seemingly remote places on maps. Hobbies I am working on right now are learning guitar, how to surf, growing my drawing skills specifically for cartography, and writing.
I am also an adventure and lifestyle photographer who is currently working on building up my portfolio and experience during my senior year before I hopefully am able to make a career out of travel after graduation. I hope to use the talents I continue to perfect to make experience and travel a sustainable way of living for myself while discovering ways to serve those around me.
He is good to me everyday.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

Growing up in a town that was heavily populated by tourists for a good part of the year, traveling is always something I want to do in a way that conscious of and respectful to the people that call that place home. Aside from that, I am a firm believer that connections made while traveling can be mutually beneficial, long lasting, and expand ones world beyond their own in a way that is hard to forget. I travel to experience, not just to see, and I think that couch surfing serves this purpose far more in depth than bumping into someone short term can, while still allowing people to maintain their own space in a healthy way. In short a great way to travel in depth!

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Music: Hippo Campus, Vampire Weekend, Young the Giant, Local Natives, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Summer Salt, Frank Ocean, The Jungle Giants, Box The Oxford, The Oh Hellos, Civil Wars, Leon Bridges, and just about anything else, (not the biggest fan of country, and screamo, but always open to someone trying to change my mind!)

Movies: Arrival, Her, Interstellar, Fight Club, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Kings of Summer, Lord of the Rings, The Spongebob Squarpants Movie, (no not the second one...), and most anything directed by Wes Anderson.

Books: Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Development as Freedom by Amartya Sen, No Matter the Wreckage by Sarah Kay, and anything that can hold my attention. I'm greatly looking forward to having more time to read for pleasure after finishing university.

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

From waking up to the sound of bald eagles in Seward Alaska, to its hard for me to pick the from the stories I have been blessed to carry. I would love to share more in person and hear about your experiences as well! If you just find me on here or aren't able to host, but would still want to swap stories, I'm all ears and happy to share! Shoot me a DM on instagram if you have one @daileyg_photo and I'd love to chat.

Teach:
For the past 5-6 years I have spent a great deal of my time delving into the world of photography and all that it has to offer. I love to make memories, and with that being something I try to do as often as I can, it helps to have something to look back on to really relive the experience. I Love teaching people about anything related to photography, from the most basic questions to in depth discussion about preferred lenses or locations. I also know most of the United States West Coast thoroughly and am happy to share any info on that.

Learn:
My mom raised, (who has been a preschool teacher for 25+ years), taught me from a young age to be a life long learner, and learning when I really boil it down is a huge reason that I make traveling a habit. Whether it's about a hobby, knowledge of the local landscape or language, philosophy and anything in between, I think that learning about and growing to understand what makes people who they are is essential to creating a culture of acceptance, regardless of differences, around the world. I would love to know what you have to teach!

Share:
Story telling is something that I think is a crucial part of bringing different people together. When we are willing to describe our own experiences, and listen to someone else's, more often than not we find ways in which relating feels natural and builds relationship rather than maintaining stereotypes. With the places and experiences I have been blessed to have, I have a lot I am willing to share about my own life, but these experiences have taught me that everyone has a story, even people who think they don't or their story is boring. Hearing and telling stories is something that I think couch surfing can be incredibly valuable for.

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

Aside from sharing stories, if I am traveling I more than likely will have my camera with me except in very rare circumstances. I don't believe in completely freeloading, whether that means an exchange of experiences, (which I count as most valuable), or services. If I stay with you and you need professional grade photos shot of anything (within reason) I'd be happy to do it as a way of thanking you for my stay if the timing fits in the itinerary of whatever trip I might be on. I love providing photos for people in exchange, it's a great way to build a portfolio and help someone out in a pretty specific way.
