ABOUT ME

I'll try anything ... well, probably more times than is good for me. I am a sad idealist - it is so much more work than being apathetic. I believe in changing the world and doing just a little bit of good. As such I have been working with Australian Aboriginal people as a linguist doing what I can in way of education and language support. I loved it but needed some ... head space ... so I have flown the coup for a while to experience some "Culture". I would love to see a place the way you see it and hopefully give you some tavelers eyes to your home town.

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophize with your friends until it all makes sense. If that doesn´t work ... look deep into the eyes of a duck .. then you will know. You WILL know.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can only surf at the moment as I am currently traveling. I am also going to meetings as they are one of the most friendly and welcoming gatherings you will ever attend. It also great as you can meet other surfers to travel with while our wonderful hosts are busy with their lives.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In the past, my house in Darwin was always an unofficial surf break with innumerable travelers coming and going from our makeshift blanket rooms. (13 people in our 3 bedroom place at the last Australian census!) I loved having new people to talk to and show around the many well kept local secrets. I have also stayed on many a couch, in Indonesia and around Australia. You realize how different a culture is when you share their daily routine and shower more than 7 times a day (Indonesia).

Intereses

Good conversation, international cuisine and learning to cook it, all languages especially those more obscure and undervalued ones, left-wing self-righteous political rants, the bush/forest/woods especially on mountains and any activity that involves being in it (walking, hiking, riding, climbing, camping, swimming and cross-country skiing), folk music festivals, seeing bands or socializing at the pub, embarrasing myself and talking crap.

Música, películas y libros

Movies: Anything that makes me think ... or laugh. Although, I prefer wit to gags. Favorites include: The delicatessen, Magnolia, Fight club, Dead Man, Pi, he Secretary, The princess bride.

Music: Too hard basket. Anything not dance or metal. Kinda like the folky end of the spectrum or good/cheesy lyrics. Favorites: Aimee Mann, Felpeyu, The Shins, Manu Chau, the Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Waifs, The Lucksmiths, Nick Cave, Mikaelangelo and the dead sea gentlemen.

Books: The life of Pi, Midnights Children, Perfume, The Shipping News, The Known World, Discworld Novels, Skinny Legs and all, and Jane Austin (who let that durty little secret outa the bag?)

Seen a wedge-tailed eagle (3mtr wingspan) in full flight right next to me while paragliding.
Participated in an Aboriginal (Yolngu) naming ceremony and managed to remember the words to the song (sung in Galpu).
